Sedbergh School Vietnam (SSV) is a bilingual international boarding school. We have a very close working relationship with Sedbergh School UK and aim to deliver an exciting and holistic education for both Vietnamese nationals and foreign students in District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. SSV was previously the Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS) and part of the EQuest Education Group. Building on the excellent reputation of Sedbergh UK with 500 years of history and boarding experience, we offer an exciting approach to the delivery of the Vietnamese National Curriculum in addition to an emerging Cambridge Curriculum including IGCSE and A Level programmes. We currently have over 1400 students from Nursery to Year 13 and approximately 200 support and teaching staff making Sedbergh Vietnam a busy school with a number of exciting challenges ahead as we expand. The role:

● Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with:

- Cambridge Lower Secondary Science (stages 7-9)

- Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

- Cambridge International AS & A Level Biology (9700)

● Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work that cover all required skills, topics, and practical work for each level.

● Create stimulating classroom and laboratory environments that foster scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and analytical skills across all age groups.

● Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources, including practical experiments, field work, microscopy, and digital tools, to cater to different learning styles and abilities.

● Guide students through scientific skill development and biology-specific knowledge, adapting approaches to suit the level:

- Focus on fundamental scientific concepts and methods in Lower Secondary

- Develop more advanced biological knowledge and practical skills in IGCSE

- Foster sophisticated analytical thinking and independent research at A Level

● Ensure safe practices in biology laboratories, including proper handling of specimens, microorganisms, and equipment.

● Prepare students for Cambridge examinations at each level, including guidance on various question types, practical assessments, and exam techniques.

● Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using both formative and summative assessment techniques aligned with Cambridge standards for each level.

● Provide detailed and constructive feedback on students' work, including lab reports, field study write-ups, and theoretical assignments.

● Encourage students to engage with biology beyond the curriculum through activities such as ecology clubs, biology olympiads, and research projects.

● Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and well-being through regular meetings and reports.

● Collaborate with colleagues in the Science department to ensure a cohesive curriculum from Lower Secondary through A Level.

● Stay updated with current developments in biology education and related pedagogical approaches, including advancements in biotechnology and environmental science.

● Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities.

● Support older students in their university applications, particularly those pursuing biology or related life science fields.

Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in Biology/ Science Education or a related field.

● Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ PGCE or other international equivalents.

● Minimum 5 years’ experience of teaching Science and Biology across secondary levels (11-18 years old).

● Minimum 2 years' experience of teaching the Cambridge Curriculum.

● Experience teaching in an international school setting and in curriculum development and resource creation for biology education is a preferable.

● In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge Science and Biology curricula from Lower Secondary to A Level.

● Excellent understanding of assessment and examination requirements for all relevant Cambridge Science and Biology qualifications.

● Strong classroom and laboratory management skills with ability to adapt to different age groups.

● Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance biology teaching and learning.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

● Passionate about biology and science education.

● Ability to inspire scientific curiosity and inquiry across different age groups.

● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to foster these in students.

● Creative and innovative in approach to teaching biology, particularly in linking theory to real-world applications.

● Adaptable and able to tailor teaching methods to different age groups and abilities.

● Committed to ongoing professional development in biology education.

● Strong commitment to laboratory safety and ethical scientific practices.

● Enthusiasm for environmental education and sustainability.

● Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.

● A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.

● Cultural sensitivity and global mindset

● Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children.

● Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls.
