Job title:           IT/Computer Science Curriculum Lead

Location:        Oak Tree School, Truro, Cornwall

Salary:        Up to £37,000 per annum depending on experience

Hours:            Monday to Friday 8am - 4.30pm 

Contract:         Permanent; Term time only

As part of our continued growth in service, we are recruiting for IT/Computer Science Curriculum Lead to join our amazing team.

Purpose of the Job:

To provide high-quality teaching and effective use of IT resources to enhance learning outcomes across all key stages, with a special focus on delivering the best education for every student, including those with social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The role demands a strong ability in Computer Science, aiming to develop the IT department as a flagship within the school.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • ​Develop and implement a comprehensive Computer Science curriculum tailored to students with SEMH needs, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of computing.
  • Identify and deliver educational outcomes across all key stages in Computer Science, including basic computer literacy, coding, software development, and cybersecurity.
  • Engage students in developing digital skills that support broader educational goals, including problem-solving and logical thinking.
  • Establish the IT department as a leading program within the school, contributing to its development and recognition as a flagship department.
  • Assess, adapt, and improve teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of all students, including those with additional challenges.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that fosters students' social and emotional development alongside their academic skills in IT.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and carers, involving them in the educational process and updating them on their children’s progress and achievements.
  • Collaborate with school staff to integrate IT across other subjects and support the overall technology infrastructure of the school.

Oak Tree School is a specialist provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall.

The School provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 children and young people aged 7 to 16 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These children and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.
