Laboratory assistant - immediate start. Local contract

The Wingate School is currently seeking a laboratory assistant.  Start date immediate but the school can wait until August 2024 for the right candidate.

This is a local contract position and only applicants currently in Mexico City will be considered.

A laboratory assistant supports the science department to provide opportunities for students to think creatively, develop scientific skills and techniques and creatively explore the world of science. 

This a full time position with hours 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:15am to 2:15pm on Friday.

Responsibilities 

• Prepare samples/specimens including the ordering of laboratory materials.
• Follow methodologies in carrying routine tasks for classroom experiments or practical preparation. 
• Liaise with the science department to support in practicals and day to day work. 
• Produce accurate and reliable data and interpret results
• Research relevant topics and gather information/data
• Adhere to correct procedures, policies and health/safety guidelines
• Maintain work area and equipment
• In charge of clearing and cleaning lab instruments, sterilising the test area, calibrating test equipment. 
• Following procedures to the relevant working body when handling chemicals 
• In charge of laboratory equipment making sure it is stocked with appropriate supplies and keeping an inventory of laboratory equipment. 
• Helping with administrative tasks 
• Maintaining and organising the prep room of scientific equipment
• In charge of checking gas is closed and showers are properly working
• Ensure labs have an extinguisher, broken glass bins and hazard bins. 
• Collect material from hazard bins.
• Make sure washing stations are stocked with soap and towels. 
• Support, when needed, practicals.
