Job overview
The Wingate School is currently seeking a laboratory assistant. Start date immediate but the school can wait until August 2024 for the right candidate.
This is a local contract position and only applicants currently in Mexico City will be considered.
A laboratory assistant supports the science department to provide opportunities for students to think creatively, develop scientific skills and techniques and creatively explore the world of science.
This a full time position with hours 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:15am to 2:15pm on Friday.
Responsibilities
- Prepare samples/specimens including the ordering of laboratory materials.
- Follow methodologies in carrying routine tasks for classroom experiments or practical preparation.
- Liaise with the science department to support in practicals and day to day work.
- Produce accurate and reliable data and interpret results
- Research relevant topics and gather information/data
- Adhere to correct procedures, policies and health/safety guidelines
- Maintain work area and equipment
- In charge of clearing and cleaning lab instruments, sterilising the test area, calibrating test equipment.
- Following procedures to the relevant working body when handling chemicals
- In charge of laboratory equipment making sure it is stocked with appropriate supplies and keeping an inventory of laboratory equipment.
- Helping with administrative tasks
- Maintaining and organising the prep room of scientific equipment
- In charge of checking gas is closed and showers are properly working
- Ensure labs have an extinguisher, broken glass bins and hazard bins.
- Collect material from hazard bins.
- Make sure washing stations are stocked with soap and towels.
- Support, when needed, practicals.

Calendar System
The Wingate School follows an international school calendar; classes run from August to June with approximately 180 school days.
Academic Programs
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): Cambridge International curriculum for 14-16 year olds.
International Baccalaureate (IBDP): Our students take IB courses in the last two years of high school, years 12 and 13, and after completing the examination requirements they obtain the globally-recognized IB Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Organization.
English is the language of instruction at TWS for all subjects except for additional language courses.
