We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join the Luton Special Educational Needs Service as the Lead for Deaf children and young people service. This is a pivotal role where you will make a significant impact on the lives of Deaf Children and Young People in Luton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service Leadership and Development: Lead, manage, and develop the Deaf Outreach Service, ensuring that children and young people who are deaf or have a hearing loss achieve their full potential and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Team Management: Oversee peripatetic staff delivering outreach in Luton.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with commissioners, the Local Authority, and stakeholders, ensuring the service meets specified requirements and continuously improves based on feedback.
  • Strategic Contribution: As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute to the overall management and strategic direction of the Luton Special Educational Needs Service.
  • Deputy Leadership: Provide leadership in the absence of the Team Leader, ensuring continuity and maintaining high standards of service delivery.

About you

The successful appointment will have experience of working as a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf, with at least 5 years of management experience in a peripatetic service or resourced base or special school setting.

You will need to have good financial awareness and management of budget to use resources effectively, ability to lead and organise training sessions for mainstream or specialist Teachers, Educational Communicators, Teaching Assistants, other professionals and parents/carers.

You’ll have the ability to review and evaluate detailed assessments, monitoring and programme planning for deaf pupils, confidently use ICT as a tool and ensuring data is accurate and knowledge and understanding of current legislation, especially within the fields of hearing impairment and special needs.
