Job overview

Are you an exceptional English teacher looking for your next step? Are you ready to inspire, innovate, and lead on driving literacy excellence in a dynamic, industry-focused environment?

Global Academy is looking for a passionate and ambitious Lead Practitioner in English and Literacy to join our outstanding team and help shape the future of education. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a school that combines academic excellence with industry-leading pathways to prepare students for real-world success.

About Us

Global Academy is a specialist UTC focused on preparing young people for careers in the creative, media, and digital industries. We are proudly sponsored by Global Media and Entertainment, Europe’s largest media and entertainment group, home to iconic brands such as Capital, Heart, LBC, Smooth, Classic FM, Radio X, and Gold.

Our partnership with Global provides students with unparalleled access to industry leaders, real-world projects, and career-focused opportunities. This sponsorship, combined with our state-of-the-art facilities and a curriculum that balances academic qualifications with vocational specialisms, sets us apart as a truly unique educational environment.

As a UTC, we admit students at the start of Key Stage 4 (Year 10), which means we are exempt from Progress 8 and EBacc measures, allowing us to focus on delivering a curriculum that equips students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to thrive in the real world.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal leadership role in driving literacy excellence across the academy. You will:

  • Champion and deliver a whole-school literacy strategy, ensuring all students develop outstanding reading, writing, and oracy skills.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Reading Plus Programme, ensuring measurable improvements in reading outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Faculty for English and Literacy to enhance teaching practices and curriculum delivery.
  • Support the development of staff through instructional coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Mentor and lead our Early Career Teachers (ECTs), ensuring high-quality teaching is embedded across the academy.
  • Model exceptional teaching within the English Faculty, inspiring both students and colleagues to achieve excellence.

This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of literacy in an innovative, industry-connected academy.

Why Join Us?

At Global Academy, we believe in valuing and investing in our staff. As part of our team, you will benefit from:

  • Flexible PPA time, with opportunities to work off-site.
  • Dedicated marking and planning time to support workload balance.
  • A two-week October half term to allow for rest and rejuvenation.
  • A strong focus on professional development, including access to tailored CPD, coaching, and leadership programmes.
  • The opportunity to work in a cutting-edge educational environment, directly connected to Europe’s largest media group.

Our academy is a place where creativity meets excellence, where innovation thrives, and where staff are supported to Think Big, Keep it Simple, Own it, and Be Better Together.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and talented individual who:

  • Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with a minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience.
  • Has a proven track record of raising standards and improving literacy outcomes.
  • Can inspire and motivate both students and staff, modelling best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Has experience of leading whole-school initiatives, mentoring colleagues, or driving impactful change.
  • Shares our commitment to delivering academic and vocational literacy excellence across the academy.
