The English Faculty at Biddick Academy seeks a committed, enthusiastic and talented Lead Practitioner to join our team. Biddick Academy is a good school (Ofsted, 2021) conveniently situated 10 minutes’ drive from Newcastle and Durham. The Academy enjoys an excellent reputation within the local community and is consistently oversubscribed year-on-year.

 We are seeking to appoint a Lead Practitioner for English who shares our passion for learning and our determination to change lives through the education we provide. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and energetic teacher of English who can mentor other colleagues, with varying levels of experience, inspiring them to become more effective practitioners.

All Lead Practitioners have responsibilities both within and beyond their department and therefore the role provides outstanding professional development opportunities as well as providing an excellent opportunity for an ambitious colleague to develop their leadership skills further.

 The successful candidate will have:

·        A genuine love of English and its impact on young people’s lives;

·        A proven track record of raising and maintaining high educational standards in English;

·        Significant experience of leading teaching and learning initiatives beyond their own classroom to raise standards;

·        An acute awareness of how English can engage and inspire young people;

·        Ability to interpret and act on a wide range of key data;

·        An excellent knowledge of curriculum development and examination schemes of work;

·        Ability to successfully build teams and motivate others;

·        Have the ability to engage and inspire pupils and build excellent relationships.

Biddick Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Washington, near Sunderland, for students aged 11-16. 

In 1997, Biddick was one of the first 11 schools in England to become a specialist sports college. The academy’s facilities include a sports hall, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a gymnasium, a full-size 3G pitch, floodlit tennis courts, a theatre and ICT suites.
