Their ideal candidate will have:

  • Motivation to continually improve standards and achieve excellence
  • Genuine passion and a belief in the potential of every student
  • High expectations for accountability and consistency
  • Effective and systematic behaviour management
  • Evidence being an excellent classroom practitioner.

About their school:

The Academy is a seven-form entry secondary school in the heart of Sparkhill. Their approach is summed up in the African proverb - “It takes a whole community to bring up a child”. They work together to ensure that each of their children can overcome barriers to learning, catch up where needed and achieve at the highest levels by working harder, behaving better and making faster progress than children in other schools and academies. They support their students to develop a lifelong love of learning; a sense of personal and civic pride and the confidence to not just navigate the modern world, but to shape it.

At the Academy, their staff are a valuable and integral part of their community and are given the room to grow and develop in an encouraging, challenging and rewarding environment. They are their role-models and ambassadors on a professional and public level. They reflect the virtues they promote which include courage, self-discipline, commitment, and honesty. Therefore, staff wellbeing is at the heart of what they do at the academy and they will help you to be the very best that you can be, throughout your entire career.

By becoming a member of their school family, you will embrace multiple opportunities for personal and professional development, not just within the school, but from the internationally renowned family of schools they are a part of. Through the Academy, their staff can share best practice and receive training from some of the most talented individuals in the country.

They offer:

  • Staff wellbeing is one of their main priorities. They provide breakfast for staff each morning, soup for lunch and lunch for those on duty. They have parking available, a gym on site and a well-equipped staff room including a pool table.
  • Their systems and processes for communication, marking and feedback and assessment are streamlined and the approaches they take are research led and based on the needs of their local context. For instance, at present they do not use traditional book marking across the school.
  • On Fridays, children finish at 1.20pm, giving time and space for professional development amongst staff.
  • Staff voice is important to them; they like to listen to their staff. They are always seeking feedback and input from their staff.
