This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly effective colleague to play a leading role in the development of teaching and learning at The Misbourne. Working closely with both senior and middle leaders, the lead practitioner will contribute to the strategic planning and development of teaching and learning provision as well as ensuring its effective implementation, so that our students are challenged to become knowledgeable, creative, articulate and confident in their opinions and thoughts.

In the past twelve months we have made significant progress in developing a shared understanding of the principles that underpin effective teaching and learning at The Misbourne as well as identifying priorities for further curriculum development. Staff are keen participants in CPD and want to develop their practice as demonstrated by the 17 colleagues undertaking NPQs this year. Our current Lead Practitioner has played a central role in shaping this culture and we are excited to be growing our team of Lead Practitioners to further develop our existing work and to support improvement in other areas.

We would love to work with you if you are hungry to grow our learning community by building effective relationships through coaching, supporting and modelling the very best of pedagogical practice. You will become a core member of the Teaching and Learning Team, working alongside Senior Leadership and an existing Lead Practitioner. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong track record of innovation and leading others in the raising of learning standards.  Dependent on strengths, the successful candidate will work as part of the Teaching and Learning Team across a number of focus areas including:

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating CPD
  • Contributing to curriculum development and evaluation across the academy
  • Mentoring and coaching early career teachers as well as experienced staff across curriculum areas
  • Developing the quality of teaching, learning and academic standards in the sixth form.
  • Using student voice to inform pedagogy and curriculum planning/enactment.
  • Embedding high-quality blended learning in the classroom with Chromebooks.

As Lead Practitioner, you will be given a much-reduced teaching timetable to enable you to lead on your focus areas.

Are you:

  • Passionate about working with young people and the importance of education?
  • Able to relate to young people and support them to become independent, resilient learners?
  • Dynamic and organised, with good attention to detail?
  • Someone with good communication, interpersonal and IT skills?

As Headteacher it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the trustees, staff and students to welcome you to The Misbourne. Thank you for showing an interest in working with us.

This is a good school where every student really does matter and where our team of professional and passionate staff works hard to instil the belief in each of them that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We believe that there are three things that are important to working in a school. Firstly, the students. We are fortunate to have polite and respectful students with well-supported families who want to work hard and do well but for some, lack the self-belief to really achieve their full potential. Secondly, a supportive staff body and investment in continued professional development. Staff are happy to work here and are very rightly proud of their school. They are supported by a comprehensive training programme that takes into account individual roles as well as career progression and aspirations. We are linked to two teaching schools and take a lead role in delivering training sessions for trainees from across Buckinghamshire.

Thirdly, our facilities. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities across the curriculum including a new building for the Sixth Form, English department and school café; extensive playing fields; three new IT suites and brand-new multi-million pound sports centre including dance space and fitness suite (free to use for staff). We have recently transitioned to Google in preparation for Year 7 commencing blended learning using chromebooks from September 2023.We believe that there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome. We strive for educational excellence in every lesson, every day, through a climate of high expectations, which are actively promoted in all aspects of school life. The Misbourne provides a learning environment that allows all students to flourish through mutual respect, kindness and a strong desire to achieve.

Through inspiring teaching; excellent pastoral care and strong partnerships with families and the wider community, our students leave us with the qualifications, skills and values needed to lead happy and successful lives and we are looking for similarly dedicated and inspirational colleagues to join us.

This is such an exciting time for the school and we welcome applications from prospective employees who share our vision, values and aspirations for students.

If you would like to visit us and see for yourself, I would encourage you to make arrangements for a tour via the school office admin@themisbourne.co.uk. Staff and students are exceptionally proud of our school and we would love to show you around.

Mr Rich Peters (LL.B) Hons
