Learning Resource Centre Manager

Grade 7 £28,345 (actual) term time only. Additional weeks negotiable.

St. Gregory’s Catholic High School seeks to appoint a ‘Learning Resource Centre Manager’ to join our highly reputable and successful school community. You will have the privileged position of managing our Library and playing a key role in the literacy development of children who have a thirst for learning.

For many, this is a dream position to immerse yourself in a role designed for someone with a passion for literacy and education and we welcome applicants who have the desire to promote a love of learning and books in our young people.

This is a unique opportunity to manage and develop an already vibrant and engaging space which is currently being refurbished in order to offer a more contemporary and modern facility. You will also have the opportunity work with wonderful, supportive colleagues, in particular our communications manager who assists in the LRC and our very successful English Department.

Following our most recent Ofsted visit the report included the following statement:

The school library is an exciting place to be. Pupils use it to complete homework and engage in lunchtime activities, such as the chess tournament. There are a range of competitions and rewards to encourage pupils to read. Many pupils access the library regularly. They read widely and write reviews to encourage others to share their favourite books’

The successful candidate will be friendly, motivated, well organised and will nurture the love of reading and books with a determination to ensure that all pupils become confident readers.

A key role for the LRC Manager will be to work with the Whole School Literacy Coordinator in the planning and delivery of an effective information literacy programme across the curriculum which includes tracking and monitoring of pupil progress.

In January 2020, Ofsted’s inspection report, conducted under the new inspection framework, graded the school as ‘Good’ in every area and the school was graded as ‘Outstanding’ in our Section 48 Inspection of the Catholic Life provision of the school in February 2019. We encourage all applicants to read both reports and to review our school website too.

The opening paragraph from the Ofsted report reads: “There is a strong sense of community across the school which reflects the school vision. One pupil said “we are cared about as individuals, but because everyone cares, that makes us all one”

We are now relishing the challenge of continuing our successful journey towards providing an outstanding whole school provision.

To get to know our school community, we welcome you to visit the school to talk about the role and we also encourage you to review our school website: https://www.stgregoryshigh.com/

Closing Date:  9am on Thursday 14th September 2023

Shortlisting Date: Friday 15th September 2023

Interviews:     Friday 22nd September 2023

Values and vision

The mission statement of St Gregory’s reads: “This is our God, the servant King. He calls us now to follow him.” The school’s prayer is: “Inspire us to build a community based on love and respect. May we be empowered to challenge injustice every day. Help us to value and support each other to create a positive Learning environment where all may serve. Amen.”

The staff, parents, governors and students of St. Gregory’s Catholic High School aim to work in partnership to create a vibrant community in which all are valued. At the core of school life is a belief that there is no better inspiration than the example and teaching of Jesus Christ.

The school community seeks to set an example of service, inspired by Jesus, and in doing so fulfil the aspirations that it has for each of its pupils, and to foster their spiritual, academic and personal development.

Ofsted

“Across the school there are examples of good and sometimes outstanding teaching. Many students are eager to learn and have aspirations to excel in their studies and in the contribution they make to school life.”

“The school represents a safe, caring and responsive community. Governance is strong and effective."
