St Mary’s Catholic School is seeking to appoint two additional Learning Support assistants to join our excellent SEND team. The successful applicant will be a positive, proactive person and will work as part of our SEND/Inclusion team. Candidates should have strong Maths and English skills. This role will include support of students with a variety of additional and special needs throughout the school.

Whether you are a career changer, or looking for your first step in a school career, if you have the skills, approach, empathy and willingness to learn and be part of a team working for the best interests of the students, then we would love to hear from you.

You must be able to engage and motivate pupils and improve the quality of pupils' learning and to adapt practice as appropriate for children with SEND.

Members of the Learning Support team work in all curriculum areas. The successful applicant must be able to work unsupervised, be flexible, and able to work well as part of the wider school. Experience of working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or similar role within a school environment may be an advantage, however this is not essential.

This individual will be working with individual students, supporting groups of students or whole classes and other related tasks, including associated admin. You should be self-motivated and enjoy working independently as part of a small busy team. You must also have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and have a command of relevant ICT to be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and pupils in a busy school environment. This will involve making observations of the children and feeding back necessary information to the pupils' teachers/SENDCO.

The working pattern is 8.30 – 3.15 Monday to Friday, with an unpaid break and a ½ unpaid lunch break each day.

The role is funding dependant and will be for the remainder of the 2024/2025 academic year* in the first instance. (* until 31st August 2025).

We reserve the right to interview applicants as they apply, and close the application window early, so early applications are advised.

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

Welcome

St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.

Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.

The aims of the school are:

• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
