Meynell Primary School is situated in the north of the city and benefits greatly from our extensive 8 acres of land. Meynell is a two-form entry with an average of 480 pupils, including nursery. Nursery is housed in a separate building on the school site with a two-year-old provision for up to 40 pupils and a three to four-year-old provision for up to 104 pupils. There is currently a Headteacher, four Assistant Heads and an extensive SEND, Safeguarding and Inclusion Team.

We are seeking to appoint a Level 2 SEND Teaching Assistant to start September 2024 on a temporary basis for 2 years.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

SUPPORT FOR PUPILS

 

•Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupils

•Assist with the development and implementation of support plans

•Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations

•Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom

•Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs 

•Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities

•Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance

•Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement 

SUPPORT FOR THE TEACHER

•Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work 

•Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals 

•Assist with the planning of learning activities

•Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed

•Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils achievement, progress, problems etc.

•Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour

•Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers

•Administer routine tests and invigilate exams and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work 

SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM  

Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs

Implement local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, early years and make effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of relevant skills

Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use

Help pupils to access learning activities through specialist support 

Determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources 

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL  

Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

Participate in training and other learning activities as required

Supervise pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required

Any other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grade and role

All the above duties and responsibilities to be carried out in accordance with Tapton School Academy Trust Policies, Standing Orders and current legislation with an emphasis on Customer Care, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and Health and Safety.
