The Forest School Ethos
Forest is a humane, open-minded school with both feet on the ground, in which the pupils’ all-round personal development is outstanding and academic attainment is high. It is, above all, a happy school which understands the rich inter-relationship between the curricular, the co-curricular and the pastoral. There is boldness in the School’s character, a readiness to be forward-thinking and adaptable, with pride in what we are and excitement for what lies ahead.
About Forest
Surrounded by ancient forest and only thirty minutes from central London, Forest School is an outstanding independent day school located on the edge of Epping Forest. Forest is a large, diverse, and vibrant school, with approximately 1,500 pupils from 4 to 18. Our traditional House structure means that each pupil is treated as an individual, of whom we have the highest expectations, while our size enables us to offer breadth and depth of opportunity. Foresters are ‘known, liked and valued’ and this is central to our educational philosophy.
Our pupils are as busy outside the classroom as they are within it - a strong academic curriculum is supported by an equally strong co-curricular and pastoral programme, so our pupils can pursue their interests in music and the sporting field, and develop the key skills required for them to flourish in the 21st Century; for example, all while achieving outstanding GCSE and A level results.

“This is a high-octane environment: six to Oxbridge in 2019 and almost all leavers go on to Russell Group universities. The broad base of subjects studied at university testifies to the school’s academic range and depth” – The Good Schools Guide, 2019.
“A highly efficient and effective feel to the teaching backed up by excellent results. Mathematics, Science, English and History appear particularly strong. ‘My teachers really mind,’ said one girl, ‘and it makes such a difference to the way we all work.” – The Good Schools Guide, 2019.
“Forest takes the broadest view of education, which is fantastic” – Rachel Sylvester, Chair of the Times Education Commission, 2022.
