If you are seeking part-time work in a school library environment, we have two exciting opportunities to join Emanuel School.
We have two positions available:
Role 1
25 hours per week, Monday – Friday
9.00am - 2.30pm with a lunchbreak from 12.30pm - 1pm
Term time plus 3 weeks in the school holidays (38 weeks per year in total)
Role 2
25 hours per week, Monday - Friday
11.30am - 5pm with a lunchbreak from 1.00pm -1.30pm
Term time plus 3 weeks in the school holidays (38 weeks per year in total)
The successful candidates will assist pupils and staff with finding books and be responsible for ensuring a quiet library environment, proactively encouraging good discipline among pupils.
They will prepare the library for opening/closing, depending on shift hours, and keep the library tidy and well stocked with books and stationery.
There will be occasional evening or weekend work for open events and functions.
Previous library experience is an advantage but not essential.
Previous experience of working with children or in an educational setting is also desirable but not essential.
A genuine and unwavering passion for reading and books which can be shared with our pupils is essential.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.
We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”
We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.
Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
