The College seeks to appoint a Library Supervisor for 23.5 hours per week to support the significant use of the Library for pupils across the full week during term time.

Job Title:                    Library Supervisor

Reporting to:             Librarian

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Supervision and support of students using the library in the absence of the Librarian and with particular reference to Evening School.
  • Supervision and management of SLAs when on duty.
  • Routine library duties i.e.: shelving, shelf-tidying circulations; withdrawals, amendments to databases as directed by the librarians; responsible to Assistant librarian for overdue routines using AccessIt.
  • Encouraging and highlighting current awareness using library materials; promoting different departments within the College, maintaining library notices and other display areas and relating them to the Library.
  • Clerical routines connected with the receipt of new and existing stock, including textbooks.
  • Maintenance of front desk and office area, stock repairs.
  • provision of stationery items in consultation with the Librarian and Resource Centre
  • working with the Librarian to process existing Sanderson Room stock
  • other routines of a supporting nature including printer supplies 
  • Guidance and help to users, with referral to the Librarians if required.      
  • Opening, closing and securing the library when on duty.
  • Attending training sessions as required.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment for library users and staff, including monthly fire checks.
  • Being aware of and implementing current safeguarding policy.
  • Other duties as may be required from time to time.

 

Person Specification  

Key Skills Required

  • Ability to communicate well with a range of people appropriately both verbally and in writing
  • Methodical and diligent working practices
  • Good working knowledge of IT packages including Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working with groups of young people or similar essential
  • Keen interest in literature and current affairs
  • Experience of working in a customer service role is essential
  • Experience of working in a library in a customer service context is desirable
