The Role
The British School in Tokyo is seeking a Lifeguard to help at our Primary School Azabudai Campus. The post holder may be expected to carry out additional tasks that are reasonably deemed appropriate and, in a new and growing campus, the job is likely to evolve. The successful candidate should be able to work effectively with the team but at the same time be self-motivated and self-reliant. Please note this is a local-hire contract and overseas-hire benefits such as relocation support are not applicable.
Essential
- Strong level of spoken and written English is required for this role.
- Minimum of 1 Year of related lifeguard experience.
- Certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent (including dealing with a Spinal Injury).
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid or equivalent.
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children with whom you come into contact with.
Desirable
- Experience in a School or Swim Club environment.
- Ability to assist swim teachers in lessons when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility during school hours and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Working closely with the Head of Primary PE, Director of Sport and associated swim teaches to ensure the smooth and safe running of the pool.
- Assist with setting up and clearing away at the end of each session
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
- Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
- Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
