Job overview

To co-ordinate and provide reading intervention to close learning gaps for students who arrive at secondary school below expected attainment in reading and writing/spelling. This will involve administering the assessment process, leading small group intervention, monitoring and evaluating the impact of the intervention.

Principal Accountabilities:

 

1.  In liaison with, and under the guidance of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator plan and carry out assessments for identified students across the school, including all students in Y7 on transition to secondary school.

 

2.  In liaison with, and under the guidance of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, analyse the assessment information to target intervention approaches appropriately for different students to identify a programme for individual pupils that may require one-to-one or small group classes. 

 

3.   Co-ordinate the intervention timetable, liaising with teachers and heads of department as appropriate, and informing parents and carers.

 

4.  Deliver engaging sessions, to support a range of learning needs, having identified clear individual and group learning objectives.

 

5.  Differentiate sessions in line with pupil’s current attainment, taking in to account any barriers to learning or additional needs.

 

6.  Support students through their intervention programme, monitor their progress and administer reassessment.

 

7.   In liaison with, and under the guidance of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator evaluate the impact of intervention and provide updates to DHT, teachers and parents.

 

8.   Support students in social and emotional well-being. Provide students with positive feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain students’ efforts and develop self-reliance and self-esteem. Report any problems to the SENCO, or as appropriate and in-line with academy policy and procedures, such as health and safety, child protection, behaviour management.

 

9.  Provide general administrative support as required and directed by your line manager.

 

10.  Attend meetings and training sessions as required and agreed with your line manager.

About Oakmoor School

Oakmoor School is a brand new, state of the art secondary school situated in a 22 acre tree lined site on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
