Brief description:

The main responsibility of the Lower School Learner Support Services (“LSS”) Occupational Therapist is to support students through occupational therapy, provide professional development opportunities for teachers and be a critical part of the school’s student support structure.

The LSS Occupational Therapist (“OT”) provides individualized support and interventions to students using evidence-based interventions. This specialized position is highly collaborative, providing consultation and education for teachers and parents as well as building partnerships with members of the local community. The OT will lead adult learning in occupational therapy, increase understanding of different learning profiles, and support the implementation of effective strategies. The OT will collaborate with other professionals on the LSS team therefore promoting greater use of consistent strategies across the Lower School.

Profile:

●  Recent successful school-based experience as an occupational therapist, working with either pre-school or primary-school age students 

●  Ability to develop and implement support plans tailored to a child’s needs.

●  Ability to work closely with teachers, parents, speech therapists, psychologists, and other professionals.

●  Strong communication skills for explaining therapy plans and progress to non-clinical stakeholders.

●  Familiarity with educational systems, and how therapy integrates within academic support programs.

●  Familiarity with recent developments in occupational therapy and regular participation in OT professional development.

●  Current certification, qualification or licensure for OT

●  Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (MA preferred) in Occupational Therapy or Special Needs Education / Learning Disabilities / Language Acquisition with a specialization in sensory processing and fine motor skills;

●  Strong Command of English

●  Flexibility to handle unexpected situations or diverse needs in a busy school environment.

●  Recent successful experience in an international school setting;

●  Experience working in a collaborative working environment and capacity to train teachers and parents about strategies in the classroom or at home to support the development of the child;

●  Familiarity and fluency with technology supported learning and familiarity with tools and equipment that support children with physical or learning challenges;

●  Technologically competent in basic resources and programmes 

●  Understanding of and experience with students who are English Language Learners.

The International School of Luxembourg (ISL) is an independent, non-profit, day school situated in the city of Luxembourg, capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Founded in 1963, ISL has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 1995, offering both the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school is currently working towards accreditation for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

ISL has two sections: the Lower School, and the Upper School, the latter comprising of Middle School and High School. Total school enrolment is approximately 1,350 students, aged 3-18 years. Others remain at ISL for much of their career: 12% of the teaching staff has served the school for 20 years or more. In recent years ISL has created a number of new positions in response to increasing enrolment, however staff turnover is actually rather low.
