Job overview
If you offer experience of working on building projects and routine building maintenance, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role at Emanuel School.
In this role, you will manage, monitor and undertake maintenance and minor building related projects.
You will need to ensure all routine maintenance tasks are undertaken as described and records are completed accurately and in full.
You will also constantly assess and report on the condition of the school’s estate and act upon urgent needs to ensure a safe environment for all.
This is a full-time role, working 08:00 to 17:00 (including a one-hour unpaid lunch break), Monday to Friday. We are happy to talk to candidates about the possibility of earlier/later start and finish times.
You may be offered additional hours to assist the department, for which a choice of overtime or time off in lieu will be agreed.
About You
You will need experience of supervising contractors, as well as Health & Safety or regulatory compliance experience.
We welcome applications from candidates with a broad range of building skills, such as carpentry, decorating, brickwork, plumbing, plastering and minor electrical works.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1100 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.
We are an ambitious community. This summer, 89% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 39% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 64%. This is 31% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic achievement in the country. The last ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”
We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next three years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both traditionally areas of strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in the 2023 Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.
Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
