Job Description: Teacher of Mathematics with Computer Science

Role Summary

The Maths and Computer Science Teacher will deliver engaging and challenging lessons to secondary school students following the British curriculum. The successful candidate will inspire a passion for mathematics and computer science, equipping students with analytical, problem-solving, and technological skills essential for academic success and future opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons in Mathematics up to A Level and computer science ideally up to IGCSE/KS4.
  • Employ innovative teaching methods, including the use of technology, to create an engaging and effective learning environment.
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skills through problem-solving and project-based learning.

Student Progress and Assessment

  • Assess and track student progress through formative and summative assessments, ensuring timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Prepare students for external examinations, providing targeted support to meet individual needs.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the school’s Maths and Computer Science curriculum.
  • Stay updated with advancements in both fields, integrating new topics, software, and methodologies into the classroom.

Pastoral Care

  • Support the holistic development of students, addressing their academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Act as a form tutor or mentor, building positive relationships with students and fostering a supportive environment.


Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practices and develop cross-disciplinary links.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about educational trends and technological advancements.

School Life and Activities

  • Engage in the broader school community by participating in extracurricular activities, events, and initiatives.
  • Inspire students through clubs, competitions, or workshops related to Maths, coding, robotics, or digital innovation.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • A degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience teaching mathematics and computer science in a secondary school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the British curriculum, including IGCSE and A Levels.
  • Strong ICT skills and familiarity with programming languages, software, and tools used in education.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in an international school environment.
  • Proficiency in additional programming languages or specialized software (e.g., Python, Java, AI tools).
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methodologies, including STEM initiatives and interdisciplinary projects.

Conditions

  • The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom he/she is responsible, or with whom he/she comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant British School of Monaco Safeguarding, Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, he/she must report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or his/her Deputy so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant local agencies and authorities This job description is not intended to be all embracing and the post holder shall be required to carry out whatever the Principal shall instruct, commensurate with training and experience.
