Main responsibilities:

Pedagogical Leadership of the IB Middle Years Programme:

·Dissemination to teachers of relevant IB MYP communications and updates;

·Leading and assisting staff in all matters pertaining to effective teaching and learning in the IB MYP

·Supporting teachers in the development of excellent pedagogical practice through ongoing classroom observations and other forms of Professional Development

·Collaborative planning with MYP subject group teams to ensure the development of teaching and learning in line with the MYP and the mission and vision of the Academies;

·Providing continuing Professional Development for all teachers that ensures a deep understanding of the philosophy and practices of the MYP within the context of the Aga Khan Academies;

·Overseeing the implementation of the MYP Core (PP, ATTL and C&S) in line with the mission and vision of the Aga Khan Academies;

·Developing, editing, and disseminating an IB MYP Strategic Plan, which is aligned with other school priorities, for the approval of the Head of Academy;

·Working with the school administration to ensure that the IB MYP is resourced appropriately;

·Teaching IB courses in line with the contact load for IB Coordinators at the AKA Dhaka;

Liaison with the IB, including leading processes for the authorisation and evaluation of the programme

·Liaising with the IB regarding the development and implementation of the Middle Years Programme;

·Disseminating to teachers any relevant IB MYP communications and updates;

·Ensuring that Academic Leadership team and other key stakeholders are kept abreast of all developments and events concerning the IB MYP;

·Liaising and communicating with the Head of Academy and the Academies Unit Education team to ensure successful completion of documentation relating to the authorisation and evaluation processes;

·Organising and ensuring the smooth running of consultant, authorisation and evaluation team visits;

·Ensuring that all relevant and required documentation is maintained and up to date on ManageBac, IBIS and the Academy IT management systems and that accurate student records are maintained;

·Identifying opportunities and registering teachers for IB MYP conferences and Professional Development workshops, as necessary.

Administration of IB eAssessment processes:

·Ensuring that the highest standards of Academic Honesty are adhered to by students and teachers across all subjects in the Middle Years Programme;

·Administering any internal assessments and e-assessments;

·Taking overall responsibility for managing the use of standardised assessments (CEM) in the Middle School;

·In partnership with the Senior School Principal, managing the analysis of students’ performance data to promote early interventions to accelerate their progress of individuals and cohorts of students.

Ensuring student success within and beyond the MYP:

·Ensuring there are systems in place to authentically assess, record and track the progress of all students;

·Analysing qualitative and quantitative assessment data to identify student’s needs and programme improvements;

·Assisting the Academy in recruitment and enrolment of students for the MYP/DP and residential programmes;

·Supporting parents with clear information and guidance as their children transition to the Academy for the Middle Years programme;

Building a coherent IB continuum within and across the Academies in line with the Academies’ mission and vision:

·Liaising with the AKA Dhaka Academic Leadership Team (ALT) to ensure continuity and consistency within and across the IB programmes;

  • Working with the ALT to coordinate collaborative planning between the different disciplines and across the phases;
  • Working with PYP and DP Coordinators to build continuums for the cross-programme elements of the IB, including ATL, Service-Learning, Academic Honesty and Global Contexts.

·Working closely with MYP co-ordinators across the network to ensure the consistency of the Year 9 curriculum in all Aga Khan Academies

·Supporting the AU International Exchange Manager and the local staff responsible for the student exchange in ensuring the smooth academic transfer of students between home and host Academies.

·Liaising with the AU Education team and MYP Co-ordinators at the other Aga Khan Academies to ensure consistency of programme implementation across the network.

During the candidacy, authorisation and renewal phase the IBMYP Coordinator (IBMYPC) will be responsible for:

·Liaising and communicating with the Head of Academy and the Academies Unit Education team to ensure successful completion of documentation relating to the authorisation process;

·All contact with the IB regarding the development and implementation of the Middle year Programme;

·Liaising with the Academy Academic Leadership Team to ensure continuity and consistency within and across the IB programmes;

·Assisting the Academy in sourcing and enrolling students for the MYP/DP and residential programmes;

·Supporting parents with clear information and guidance as their child/ren transition to the Academy for the Diploma programme;

·Liaising with the AU Education team and DP Co-ordinators at the other Aga Khan Academies to ensure consistency of programme implementation across the network.

Required Attributes:

  • A commitment to the IB Middle Years Programme
  • Knowledge and understanding of secondary education and understanding of school-university progression.
  • Knowledge of authorisation and evaluation frameworks, including the IB Standards and Practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to interact well and communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues within a diverse and pluralistic society.
  • Strong demonstration of a team player with the ability and willingness to develop capacity amongst the team of local staff.
  • Commitment to championing and leading innovative transformational change regarding approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Self-starter, able to initiate ideas and act proactively

Education:

  • Master’s degree in an education related field.
  • Professional Teaching Qualification

Valued additional assets:

  • Understanding and experience of international education and educational standards beyond Bangladesh.
  • Intercultural appreciation and sensitivity. Able to appreciate diverse cultural contexts and perspectives and use them to enrich the educational experiences of the students.
  • Experience of bilingual programmes.
  • Experience in K-12 schools, and an understanding of the IB continuum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the IBDP and IBPYP.
  • Work within the IB Educator Network as a Workshop Leader, Visiting Team Member or Consultant.

Skills:

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Previous experience as an effective and innovative Middle Years Programme (MYP) teacher/leader - demonstrable knowledge of the principles and practices underpinning the curricula and the ability to provide substantial evidence of pedagogical practice that is closely allied to the IB.
  • Proven ability to evaluate the progress of students and the quality of their learning and to use this to build a culture of continuous improvement and striving for excellence.
  • Extensive experience of implementing a rich extra-curricular programme with a focus on service.
  • Comfortable and adept with information technology
