September 2023
Bexleyheath Academy is growing at unprecedented rates. The number of first-choice preferences for Year 7 has increased by 112% in the last three years, and the Academy has grown by over 30% in all other year groups. Bexleyheath Academy is the comprehensive school of choice in the London Borough of Bexley.
As a school of choice within the local community, we seek talented, passionate and dedicated teachers across all departments who will join our team to ensure that our students lead remarkable lives.
Bexleyheath Academy is a non-selective comprehensive situated in the heartland of Kent grammar schools. When inspectors visited Bexleyheath Academy in July 2021, they said that the Academy had “transformed” and that “there is a positive atmosphere in classes and around the school”. Inspectors also noted that the school “has completely changed” and have confirmed in their report that Bexleyheath Academy is officially a ‘Good’ school in all areas. Inspectors commented that pupils are “polite, friendly and considerate” and “actively demonstrate the school value ‘be big-hearted’.”
Bexleyheath has been on an incredible journey of improvement, from Special Measures, ‘Inadequate’ in all areas, to our current status as a ‘Good’ school. We have a fantastic team of friendly, happy staff who have worked hard to realise that transformation.
In terms of the broader school, we recognise that teaching and leading is a demanding career, and we aim to ensure that staff who have chosen to join the profession are supported as they can be. We have a zero-tolerance approach to anything that interrupts learning. Our central team deals with all behaviour issues, non-completion of homework, phone calls and detentions to ensure that teachers are as free as possible to do the three things that matter most: Plan, Teach & Assess. Teachers at Bexleyheath Academy are not asked to participate in break and lunch duties. Teachers at Bexleyheath Academy are rarely asked to cover colleagues’ lessons and are all given a flexible working period. At Bexleyheath, we prioritise our staff’s well-being and fiercely protect that work/life balance. Due to our approach, we have excellent staff retention rates.
We are looking for passionate teachers who really enjoy teaching, and we can be flexible on subject specialism for the right people. We are accepting expressions of interest from Teachers of Science, Maths, English, Drama, ICT, Business Studies, Geography, Design Technology, Art, Media and Music. We warmly welcome visits to the school so you can see your relevant department in action and meet staff with whom you could potentially work from September. Our facilities are excellent across the school, so you would have all the tools available to provide an excellent education, in every lesson, every day.
Any position in education is inevitably laden with values and ideals, and we are a school built on shared ownership of these. We wish to give our students the very best start that we can in life and, through hard work and determination, we hope that these values and ideals start to take shape as something recognisable in the futures that we help build.
Should you wish to find out more about what we do or would like to talk to the Principal, Joseph Sparks, directly, then please feel free to do so using jsparks@bexleyheathacademy.org
