About the role
The Music Technician will provide organisational support to ensure the smooth operation of day to day curricular and co-curricular operations of the Music department, including concerts and events.
A key part of the role will be providing technical support for the delivery of the MiSST (Music in Secondary Schools Trust) programme – this involves all 270 Year 7 and 8 students learning the violin, expanding in 2025/26 to include all students at Key Stage 3.
- Oversee and maintain all technical equipment for music, including the MiSST programme.
- Offer technical support for curriculum music lessons.
- Ensure all music spaces, including teaching rooms, practice rooms and storage facilities, are fit for purpose and are kept tidy.
- Manage the school’s stock of instruments, including maintaining an accurate database of instruments and leasees, organise the maintenance and repair of instruments, and oversee the return of instruments at the end of each loan period.
- Oversee the tuning of the school’s pianos.
- Support the organisation of school concerts, events and trips.
- Support and lead (as appropriate) co-curricular musical ensembles by arrangement with the Director of Music.
- Undertake regular checks and termly audits of performing arts spaces, facilities and equipment ensuring effective use of resources and legal compliance.
22.5 hour per week, 3 days a week, 39 weeks per year - Term Time, Permanent

Based in the town of Kirton, in Boston, Lincolnshire, Thomas Middlecott Academy is a secondary mainstream school for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 16. It was converted into an academy in March 2015. At present, there are approximately 479 students on the roll. The academy opened in 1624 as a Free Grammar School by Sir Thomas Middlecott. The school is a part of the David Ross Education Trust.

“The recently appointed headteacher has made an impressive start. Expectations for what students can achieve are beginning to rise and there have been improvements in behaviour and attendance. Staff, students and parents feel there have been many positive changes since April 2013. Partnerships with parents are strengthening. Students are cared for well. They feel safe in school and are confident that staff will deal with any problems that may arise. Most teachers show that they have secure subject knowledge and many have good relationships with their students. Where teaching is good, staff target questions at individual students to check the quality of their learning and to keep them fully involved in the lesson.”
