The Role – Online Deputy Headteacher
Are you an experienced, outstanding senior leader with substantial teaching experience in a specialist or online school?
Have you been successful in leading a provision's education or academic progress focussing on robust teaching and learning?
Interested in joining a growing national service provider, at the cutting edge of engaging pupils with lengthy gaps in education?
They are seeking a highly child-centric education professional to lead the education provision of their innovative online special school (the first of its kind accredited in the UK!).
You will provide advice and guidance to teachers, practitioners and parents remotely to fully support the needs of highly complex and vulnerable neurodiverse young people through online virtual learning.
In this role you will develop the curriculum to ensure it is robust, appropriate and engaging, ensuring that pupils are able to access a full curriculum through their online platforms. You will support teachers and practitioners to differentiate learning opportunities, providing all the opportunities of a physical school, as well as opening up opportunities only possible in an online provision.
You will lead your staff team to adapt teaching & learning opportunities to allow their vulnerable and complex young pupils to thrive, gain qualifications and become successful independent adults and leaders.
You will provide hands-on expertise in holistic child focussed solutions, ensuring all staff, pupils and parents/carers have the right resources, knowledge and skills to meet individual SEN needs online, ensure effective pupil progress, a passion for life-long learning and career development, with the skills to positively influence their community and society.
Their multi-disciplinary teams across the organisation work together to provide child-centric support, engaging with clinical, educational and social work experts, as well as partnering with their pupils’ families.
Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

- Able to deliver an engaging and diverse curriculum through outstanding teaching practice.
- Resilient and robust, role modelling outstanding teaching and professionalism.
- Substantial demonstrable experience in providing differentiated and engaging learning opportunities, through online delivery of bespoke education.
- Substantial demonstrable experience within specialist therapeutic education provisions or specialist schools, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of educators, clinicians and social workers.
- Proven experience of positive performance management & developing teams, inclusive of coaching and influencing staff to deliver innovative ways of working and teaching.
- Demonstrable experience in meeting needs of individuals, providing bespoke interventions, and educational administration linked to Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Experience of driving inclusive education initiatives to support best practice with vulnerable and complex groups.
- Highly competent digital skills, including a good understanding of IT systems and the ability to use and develop them effectively as a leader of an online school.
- Proactive and innovative, collaborating with team members in other disciplines, whilst also with the ability to work flexibly and independently.
The Online School, the first – and only – Department for Education accredited online special school, is a growing service provider across the UK, engaging with young learners virtually. These young people have lengthy gaps from formal education for a variety of reasons, with the majority displaying Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
On joining them, pupils will have already – on average – experienced three permanent exclusions, been out of full-time education for up to 18 months and are recognised to be substantially at risk of being unemployed, developing severe mental health problems and involvement with the criminal justice system later in life. That is where the Online School comes in to support engagement with life-long learning, and development of independence and social skills so that their pupils become successful adults.
