Key Responsibilities:
Job Purpose
The Outreach Teacher will deliver tailored educational programs to learners who may face barriers to traditional education. They will support academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring learners reach their potential in a supportive and flexible learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
- Design and deliver engaging, personalised lessons in core subjects like literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
- Use innovative teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners with varying abilities, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
- Assess, record, and report learners' progress, ensuring alignment with individual learning plans (ILPs).
2. Student Support
- Build positive, trusting relationships to support learners’ emotional well-being and engagement.
- Provide guidance and encouragement to develop learners’ confidence, independence, and resilience.
- Address any behavioural challenges with empathy, using restorative and inclusive approaches.
3. Safeguarding and Welfare
- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns promptly, following organisational policies and statutory requirements.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that prioritises the welfare of all learners.
- Keep up-to-date with safeguarding training and practices.
4. Collaboration and Communication
- Liaise with parents, guardians, schools, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to education and support.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to meetings, reviews, and shared action plans.
- Act as an advocate for learners, ensuring their needs are communicated and met.
5. Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, progress, and achievements.
- Prepare reports for stakeholders, including parents, schools, and other professionals, as required.
- Monitor the effectiveness of educational plans, adapting them as necessary to meet learner needs.
6. Professional Development
- Participate in training and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
- Stay informed about developments in education, safeguarding, and outreach strategies.
- Reflect on personal practice to continuously improve the quality of teaching and support.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with learners who face barriers to education, including those with SEND or challenging behaviour.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Creative and adaptable approach to teaching, meeting the diverse needs of learners.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in an outreach or alternative education setting.
- Training in behaviour management, trauma-informed practices, or SEND.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act and Education Act.
