Job overview

We are seeking a highly efficient administrator to provide professional and confidential support to the Headmaster, whilst ensuring the effective running of the Head's office and daily business.

This position provides a key contact point for the school and must represent Millfield and the Headmaster's office appropriately. This is a busy, and at times, demanding role, and so the ability to remain calm and professional when under pressure is essential.

This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and work collaboratively as part of a wider PA team to support the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The post holder will work closely with the Headmaster's Project Manager, who oversees his strategic priorities and executive group meetings.

The core hours for the role are term time (plus 6 weeks outside of term time, to be agreed with the Headmaster), Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5.00pm. There will be a need for flexibility due to the operational hours of the school and the demands of the position.

We offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience along with a range of staff benefits, including freshly prepared lunches for a nominal fee of just £10 per month, access to our state-of-the-art school facilities, and exclusive discounts and cashback benefits at popular high street shops and restaurants through our Employee Assistance Programme.

About us

Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1,300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6), with a 3:1 ratio of boarding to day. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries.

Set in over 100 acres of grounds, Millfield’s size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.

Our aim is to discover brilliance in every child and to immerse them in academic, creative and sporting opportunities to develop this brilliance. We offer an exceptionally wide range of courses and provide multiple pathways through the school to meet the needs of the individual child.

The modern world is highly competitive and the way we prepare our children for its demands is more important than ever. Young people today are subject to great pressures and it takes strong personalities to avoid the traps that life has lying in wait. Hence a good school must seek to develop confidence and maturity in all its pupils whatever their strengths and weaknesses.

All individuals have different needs and therefore a variety of opportunities must be available to enable each one to achieve success. They must learn to apply themselves to academic work but must also be encouraged to express their other talents.

With its outstanding facilities, a staff:pupil ratio of 1:7.5, an extraordinary range of academic courses and the unrivalled strength of its extra-curricular programme, Millfield strives to achieve all these aims. It also seeks to move with the times whilst maintaining the important traditions of good manners, discipline and respect for others.

We pride ourselves on the richness and diversity of the Millfield experience as well as the friendly atmosphere within our community.
