Job overview
An enthusiastic teacher is required to teach Biology and Chemistry to GCSE Level and Science in Key Stage 3. The role is part time working 20 out of 23 lessons per week and required until 31 August 2019.
We are looking to fill the post as soon as possible therefore a start date of 1 September 2018 would be preferable, alternatively a start date by 2 January 2019 would be required.
Curriculum
In Years 7, 8 and 9 the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 is taught, based on the ‘Science Works’ scheme; in Years 7 and 8 as Combined Science and in Year 9 as Separate Sciences.
At GCSE, pupils have a choice of either the AQA GCSE Separate Sciences or AQA Combined Science: Trilogy.
In the Sixth Form, all three Sciences are studied at A-Level (AQA).
The department achieves outstanding public examination results (nearly 100% pass rate at both GCSE and A Level in recent years). The department has received awards for pupils’ work, both at national and local level, and initiatives in curriculum development and school/industry links. The department enjoys the benefits of strong links with local industry.

The successful applicant should be passionate about their subject and have excellent communication skills in order to enthuse our pupils in teaching Biology and Chemistry throughout the school and should demonstrate the following skills and qualities:-

· Raise the profile of the Science Department throughout the College and help drive the development of Biology and Chemistry as curriculum subjects.
· Be enthusiastic, innovative and willing to share creativity and positivity in both the classroom and the department.
· Be committed to raising standards and monitoring pupil progress.
· Be caring, supportive and willing to adapt their teaching to suit the needs of the pupils.
· Be proficient with the use of ICT in the classroom.
· Contribute fully to the life of the College, in addition to teaching, participating in the normal supervisory and co-curricular duties undertaken by all members of staff, including fulfilling a commitment to the ‘extra-curricular’ sporting and pastoral life of the College.
Salary
The salary for this position will depend upon the qualifications and relevant experience of the successful candidate.
