Job overview
We are an independent pre-preparatory and nursery school for 70 girls and boys aged 3-7 years, previously known as The New School. In 2021, we became part of the Exeter School family.
The pre-prep school is in a former Victorian chapel on a private, wide, tree-lined avenue within an acre of grounds. Just three miles from central Exeter in the village of Exminster, it provides an oasis of calm from the bustle of city life. We are a small, happy school and a great place to work where you will quickly feel part of the team.
We are looking for fixed term, full-time Pre-Prep class teacher to cover maternity leave from September 2025. Class sizes are usually 18-20 children with full-time teaching assistant assistance and the support of a happy, collaborative team. Applicants will hold a relevant teaching qualification and have experience of working in Key Stage 1 and/or Early Years.
We are seeking a capable and enthusiastic person who has strong communication skills and a willingness to contribute to the broader life of this vibrant independent day school. As a small, busy school where everyone pitches in, the need to be a flexible, adaptable, reliable and punctual team player will be paramount. An enthusiastic, “can do” approach, together with patience, a sense of humour and the ability to maintain confidentiality will be essential. We offer a competitive salary, generous benefits include free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking, pension scheme and membership of the school’s health cash plan.
Applications must include a completed Exeter School application form. For safeguarding purposes, a CV alone is not sufficient.
The closing date for applications is 9 am on Thursday 20 March 2025. We anticipate that interviews will be held on Friday 28 March 2025.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and responsibility. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
All staff working in the school during the school day will have some contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. In your role you are likely to be regularly working directly with, and be responsible for, children in your care.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
