Birralee International School is an independent, co-educational school providing an English-speaking education for children aged 4–16 living in Trondheim, Norway. Its Australian founder gave the school the name “Birralee” meaning a “safe place for children”.

The school was established with 13 students in 1973 in Lilleby, moving to its current location in Kalvskinnet two years later. In 2006 Birralee Middle School opened its doors at Falkenborg Gård. Today, the schooli s an international learning community of 268 students, open to all children who fulfil the criteria to be enrolled in Norwegian Public schools.

Birralee students are encouraged to read extensively and are introduced to a wide variety of international literature, both modern and classical. Their interest and curiosity in the world around them is stimulated, helping them to appreciate and understand cultures and encouraging them to become environmentally aware.

Geography, History, Art, Drama, Technology, Home Economics and Music are often taught through cross-curricular topics. An emphasis is placed on Scandinavian geography and history to encourage children to become aware of their Scandinavian environment, while international differences are always kept in mind.

During the Middle School years, students are taught by subject specialist teachers and meet the learning objectives of the Norwegian National Curriculum in all subjects as well the University of Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum in several subjects including English, Maths and science.
