The British School of Lomé is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Primary Teacher to join our dynamic and supportive team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching in line with the Cambridge Curriculum and Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) methodology. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about fostering a love for learning and encouraging curiosity in students, helping them achieve their full potential in a well-rounded and stimulating environment.

Teaching and Learning:

·        Deliver engaging, creative, and effective lessons across the Primary age range, following the Cambridge Curriculum and incorporating Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) methodologies.

·        Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, ensuring all students make progress in their academic, social, and emotional development.

·        Encourage student-driven inquiry, fostering a culture of curiosity, exploration, and independent thinking.

·        Maintain high expectations for student behaviour, engagement, and achievement, providing a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Curriculum Development and Planning:

·        Plan, deliver, and assess lessons based on the Cambridge Curriculum and Inquiry-Based Learning principles.

·        Ensure that learning objectives are clearly defined, and student progress is regularly monitored and assessed.

·        Work collaboratively with colleagues to review and refine the curriculum, incorporating new ideas and teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.

·        Design and implement cross-curricular projects that incorporate inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to explore concepts in depth and from multiple perspectives.

Assessment and Reporting:

·        Regularly assess student work using a variety of formative and summative methods, providing feedback that supports growth and development.

·        Maintain accurate records of student progress and share regular updates with parents and colleagues.

·        Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and contribute to reports on students’ academic and personal development.

·        Use assessment data to inform teaching strategies and adapt plans to meet students’ individual learning needs.

Classroom Management and Pastoral Care:

·        Create a positive, well-organised classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn.

·        Foster strong relationships with students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic well-being.

·        Support students’ personal development and work closely with parents and colleagues to provide any necessary additional support for those facing challenges.

Professional Development:

·        Actively engage in professional development opportunities, keeping up to date with current educational research, methodologies, and curriculum changes.

·        Participate in school-wide initiatives to promote innovation in teaching and learning.

·        Share good practice and contribute to team discussions on how to improve the school’s teaching strategies.

School Life and Community:

·        Contribute to the broader school community through extracurricular activities, clubs, and events.

·        Participate in school-wide meetings, staff development sessions, and school events as required.

·        Encourage student participation in school-wide projects, ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom.

Qualifications and Experience:

·        A degree in Education or a related field, with a valid teaching qualification.

·        At least 2 years’ experience teaching in a Primary school setting, preferably within an international school.

·        Strong understanding of the Cambridge Curriculum and experience in delivering it at the Primary level.

·        Experience implementing Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) in the classroom.

·        Familiarity with the Shanghai Maths Project or a strong willingness to integrate this approach into teaching (desirable).

·        Ability to create engaging and effective lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.

·        Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

·        Responsibility position for after school enrichment programme coordination

·        Fluency in English is essential.
