Astrea Academy Trust is looking for an experienced senior leader to become the new Principal at Longsands Academy. This is a school that is brimming with potential, and leading Longsands Academy into the future will be a career-defining move. We are looking for an inspirational new Principal to realise our vision to provide the very best possible educational opportunities for young people at the academy. The school was inspected in February 2024 and was judged to be Good for overall effectiveness- this is a genuinely exciting opportunity to lead a good school on its next steps towards excellence.
Astrea Academy Trust is committed to never settling for second best, and our aim is that every child in our 26 academies across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire gets a brilliant education, removing any barriers to achieving this. The academy and Trust are committed to a knowledge-rich curriculum and a traditional approach to teaching, behaviour and culture, where schools teach powerful knowledge. We believe that the creation of a scholarly culture that is warm and strict, disciplined and joyful, where there is ‘purpose not power’, ensuring impeccable behaviour, where teachers can focus on teaching and pupils can focus on learning, underpins everything.
The role of Principal at Longsands Academy is a great match for someone who shares the Trust’s vision for educational excellence and has the focus to drive improvement at a pace, building on the school’s strong academic foundations. In return, Astrea will support the Principal with the expertise of a Regional Director, as well as a highly effective team of national subject leads and Central Support for Finance, HR, Estates and other functions.
To be successful as the next Principal, you need to be a visible leader who leads with honesty and integrity- either as an existing, successful Headteacher or an outstanding, tenacious Deputy Headteacher. What is most important is that you are an exceptional and optimistic leader, with a relentless drive to achieve excellence for all. You will have a flair for motivating others, embedding strong cultures of success, and engendering respect from staff and students alike.
If you are aligned to our mission and values, have a strong track record of improving young people’s education and a drive to do more, we very much look forward to hearing from you. More information can be found here: https://astrea.our-careers.co.uk/. To discuss this role in more detail, please contact our recruitment partners at Propelo by emailing astrea@propelo.co.uk or calling 01273 222877 to arrange an informal and confidential conversation.

Interviews: Thursday 8th May & Friday 9th May 2025
