Job overview
This is a great opportunity to explore the fascinating city of Cairo while leading a school that aspires to be among the best in the region.
Repton Cairo is recently established as a partnership between Repton in the UK and Merge Plus Education, a school management company with a long and distinguished history in education in Egypt. The new Principal will build Repton Cairo beyond its first three years of operation and realise the shared aspiration of the two partners for it to become one of the leading schools in Egypt and the region.
The Repton Cairo campus forms the centrepiece of the thriving and prestigious Mivida development of 5,000 properties in New Cairo, a world apart from Downtown Cairo but still with easy access to its culture and historical delights. Mivida has been built by the Emaar group as an integrated community with plenty of green space and its own shopping, leisure and entertainment facilities. The Principal will benefit from working with an experienced British group and a local partner with deep knowledge of education in Egypt. A competitive remuneration package is on offer, and the partners are conscious of the need for salary arrangements that are not subject to the currency fluctuations that can be a barrier to working in Egypt.
This all adds up to a rare opportunity, full of great potential for an experienced leader.
Repton School was founded in 1557 in the heart of England and today is a modern, world-class day and boarding school providing an exceptional broad-based education and impressive pastoral support. In 2007, Repton was the first UK independent school to establish an overseas school in Dubai. The Repton Family of Schools now comprises seven international schools and two UK prep schools and a further phase of international development is under way, coinciding with a strengthening of the group structure to ensure that Repton’s ethos, values and aims are at the core of all its schools.
In partnering with Merge Plus Education, Repton has entered the Cairo market in a way that is careful, informed and strongly focused on quality and the Repton values. Repton Cairo is an English national curriculum school with a co-curricular programme designed to deliver an outstanding holistic education in the best Repton traditions. The school started with a small Early Years and Junior School intake, and the new Principal will strengthen these parts of the school, develop the Senior School and guide the school towards its capacity of 1,500 students.
To an extent, the school is still in its start-up phase, but with much being achieved under an experienced interim Principal to build strong and steady foundations. The position requires an experienced school leader with resilience and adaptability, excellent experience of the British curriculum, and a commitment to understanding how to make this an authentically Repton school in the distinctive context of Cairo. They will be able to establish and maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning and the systems and processes required in any leading school; they will recruit outstanding colleagues as the school grows; and they will play a leading role in enabling the school to meet its enrolment targets.
The position is available from August 2024.
