Camborne Academy has continued to develop and evolve to meet the needs of students and the community whist striving to deliver an extraordinary educational experience. To this end, the school has been extended with a £3.2 million Design Technology block, the VI Form with a roll of approximately 250 students has had its common room and study facilities moved to a separate onsite building which includes a coffee shop; and in 2016 a second campus, named Nexus, was opened to focus on gifted and talented students and STEM subjects and has delivered extremely high levels of attainment and the progression of students to the very best universities. Camborne Science & International Academy (CSIA)
Prides itself on being a school which 'Dares to be Different'. It is a friendly, dynamic and innovative school in the heart of beautiful West Cornwall. As a school, we constantly ask the question 'How can we do better?' and we could never be described as being complacent. The school, which caters for students from Year 7 through to Sixth Form, is at the forefront of a number of major learning initiatives, actively encouraging innovative practices and is committed to raising standards of academic achievement for all. We believe that learning should be continued through life. Our aim is to provide an environment which is both stimulating and challenging so that when students leave this school they have acquired a thirst for further knowledge that may extend beyond their chosen area of study and remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Our mission is to consistently perform as an outstanding and exceptional learning community - we believe our students; staff and local community deserve the best, and make no apology for setting very high traditional standards as regards student behaviour. The staff at the school are conscientious, friendly and loyal, and show great commitment to our students and community.
As a school we currently hold International School Award status and we have developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea. Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges.
The Nexus campus offers students who are especially able a chance to thrive and shine in their chosen fields of study. The Nexus Gifted Programme offers a bespoke curriculum designed to engage and challenge gifted learners. Alongside this specially designed curriculum, students experience a rich co-curricular programme that complements the curriculum and deepens and develops the scholarship of these students. Students keep a broad and balanced curriculum but can choose to specialise in STEM or Liberal Arts fields after Year 9.
Our VI Form offers a wide range of A-Levels and equivalent courses. We are fortunate to attract students who wish to follow an academic pathway from Camborne and other local schools. VI Form numbers are growing steadily but class sizes are still maintained at a level where individual support can be readily offered.
Results are excellent with a 100% pass rate for the sixth consecutive year across a range of 27 A-Level subjects. Furthermore, the progress made by VI Form students places them in the top 10% of the country and the top state-funded Post 16 provider in Cornwall.
