Job overview
The Trustees of Leicester Grammar School Trust are looking to appoint an outstanding individual to the position of Head of Leicester Grammar School and Principal of Leicester Grammar School Trust. This dual role provides an exciting and rewarding challenge for an experienced educationalist. A commitment to developing an all-round education and collaborative working are essential skills for the post. The vacancy arises after the retirement of John Watson after six years of excellent service.
Leicester Grammar School Trust is a family of three independent co-educational day schools based in Great Glen, Leicestershire, and educating some 1,500 pupils. The schools are: Leicester Grammar Junior School; LGS Stoneygate; and Leicester Grammar Senior School. The post holder will lead the Grammar School, line manage the heads of the Junior School and LGS Stoneygate and have overall responsibility for all three schools.
This appointment is a great opportunity for an existing Head to make a lasting impact. The new Head will embrace and personify the Schools’ aims of promoting intellectual curiosity and academic excellence, providing a stimulating co-curriculum, including an extensive range of curricular activity, equipping pupils with self-belief and confidence, caring for the well-being of pupils and fostering a generous contribution to charity and community service.
The Head of the Grammar School will have available excellent facilities in a rural setting close to Leicester. It is the Sunday Times East Midlands Independent School of the Year 2024 and its recent inspection report is a testament to the high achievement of pupils alongside strong support for their well-being.
A warm and engaging personality, first-class communication skills, a passion for education and the flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing educational landscape will be crucial. The successful applicant will be an experienced educationalist with the ability to inspire and enthuse, to be both sensitive and firm in direction and to be a leader who brings out the best in others. The new Head will shape and drive the Trust’s future through the likely economic and political challenges of the coming years.
