Job overview

Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) is a leading, not-for-profit, multi-academy trust which has been sponsoring primary and secondary academies across the country since 2009. Our vision is to provide pupils with access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential.

We are looking for an experienced and high-calibre leader to join us as principal at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA), a popular, oversubscribed academy near Stoke-on-Trent. The overall purpose of the role is to drive the strategic development of the academy and, with the support of an experienced education director, to develop and sustain exceptional educational provision. The new principal will share our belief in the power of education to transform the educational and future life opportunities for young people. When we asked them, the students at OSSMA told us that they are looking for a highly visible, caring individual who takes an interest in them.

What’s the best thing about working for us? That’s easy. The people. Whether it’s our diverse and characterful pupils or our committed staff who are driven by the purpose of our work, our people are truly amazing. At OAT, we believe there’s nothing more important than educating the next generation, and our teams across the organisation are dedicated to ensuring that the education we offer is the best it can be. When you join us at OAT, regardless of your role, you can be certain that your work will have purpose and meaning.

While you look after our students, we will take care of you. Wellbeing is at the core of our people strategy so we offer a range of practical and holistic measures to support your health and wellbeing, from private health insurance to retail discounts, with access to emotional support services and salary sacrifice schemes for cars and bicycles available to all OAT employees.

More information about this post and the role of senior leaders with the trust is available in the accompanying information packs. We would also encourage you to contact Paul Hyde paul.hyde@ormistonacademies.co.uk education director for an informal discussion about the role, and you can arrange to visit the academy by emailing Emma Smith on esmith@ossma.co.uk.

Closing date for applications is Monday September 18th at 12pm (midday).

OAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and the expectation is that all staff will share this commitment. Therefore, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

"Aspiration without limits, success beyond measure."

We are a good school with outstanding features. The new Ofsted framework expects very high standards and this shows that we deliver a high quality education. We are one of only three schools in the City that have outstanding features and OSSMA is so proud of how far it has come over the last five years. Our academy will continue to drive up standards. This will enable our young people to achieve the results that will equip them for modern life, and to have no ceiling on their aspirations.
