THE ADVENTURE

We are looking for an independently minded teacher or tutor to join our family on an exciting travel adventure from September 2018 to July 2019. In this time, we will experience 5-7 countries, most likely Argentina, Bolivia, Japan and Mongolia and others. Our goals are to explore and experience the world, find ways to engage and integrate with local communities, build skills/confidence/curiosity/understanding/empathy……...and have a whole lot of fun on the way.

The education structure we are planning for our daughters is to have 3 terms of 10-12 weeks across the year, following the UK private school calendar, where the girls learn with you for 4 hours each morning. For the afternoons during “term time” you are free to enjoy the amazing locations, and during the holidays you can either return home or travel independently.

ROLE OF THE TUTOR

The role is to homeschool our two girls to keep up with their respective curriculums while we all enjoy this unique life experience together. For our eldest daughter (aged 9-10) this will mean revisiting the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum to prepare for Year 6 secondary school entrance in early 2020 when we return to the UK. For our younger daughter (aged 7-8) this will mean following the Year 4 core curriculum, to get ready for Year 5 when we return.

As an accomplished teacher/tutor you will bring your experience to create engaging lesson plans, that where possible use themes drawn from where we are visiting, to deliver the key learning from the respective curriculum. We are open minded to how this is done, however we are keen that we make it as easy as possible for the girls to fit back into school on their return.

The girls currently attend St Christophers’ School in Belsize Park, and are bright and joyful children who have been bought up with traditional values. Although this trip means a big change for them, they embrace it and are excited about the adventure ahead.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for either an experienced primary school teacher or professional tutor to accompany us on this trip. The bullets below highlight essential experience and characteristics that we require from all applicants:

  • Primary school teaching or primary school tutoring experience including years 4-6 Maths and English
  • Experience of the 11+ and ideally North London secondary school entrance exams
  • Willing to work in partnership with St Christopher’s such that the girls will easily slot back into regular school when we return.
  • Highly independent and confident. We are looking for someone who will enjoy the opportunity to work and live with us during the term times/weekdays, but who will also relish the chance to go exploring on their own during the afternoons/evenings, weekends, half terms and holidays. We are very open to the teacher/tutor bringing a friend or partner if that would enhance the experience for everyone involved!
  • Fluency in Spanish / ability to teach us all Spanish would be a bonus.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

We will follow the UK private school term structure. Each term will have a one week half term. During “term time” we would look for 4 hours teaching per day (between 9AM and 1PM), with any required preparation time on top. The afternoons and weekends during term time are free, and all non-term times are free for independent travel.

In addition to tutoring, we need the willingness to babysit for 3 nights per week.

Term dates:

Autumn term: Wednesday, 5 September - Friday 7 December 2018;
Spring term: Thursday, 3 January - Friday, 29 March 2019;
Summer term: Tuesday, 23 April - Wednesday, 10 July 2019.

SALARY, ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL

  • We are offering travel expenses (including flights, accommodation, food etc)
  • A competitive salary
  • 2 amazing, bright children, and a lot of fun!

APPLICATION AND FURTHER INFORMATION

If you are interested in joining us on this adventure, then please submit your CV to Charlotte and James at monicofamilytravels@gmail.com  . Also use this address if you need further information.

Closing date: 20 Feb 2018
We will be holding interviews during the 3 weeks from 19th February 2018.
