Contract: Permanent, Full Time - 35 Hrs Per Week

Are you a creative problem-solver with a passion for shaping the future of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education?

As a STEM-focused Product Designer you will help drive the development of OCR's new and existing GCSE and A Level qualifications. This is a diverse role that requires someone with excellent interpersonal skills, good attention to detail, and the ability to advance projects in a timely fashion.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

As a Product Designer you interpret customer evidence, government regulation and other stakeholder evidence to inform the best approach to developing qualifications.

You share findings with subject experts and external specialists to create qualifications that are attractive to customers, high quality and cost effective. Where business requirements are not fully developed, you work with the product manager to build evidenced consensus across the organisation.

Main accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading teams of contributors and liaising with relevant stakeholders to investigate customer needs, gathering knowledge and insight from third party stakeholders (internal and external) to inform the design of new or revised qualifications.
  • Ensuring that products are delivered on time, to cost, whilst delivering our vision of providing customers with exceptional quality qualifications. All qualifications will need to meet national regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in different teams such as assessment standards, sales and marketing, operations, product management and product support, is critical, as you strive to create innovative and exciting products

About you

You will be an articulate communicator who is adept at aligning stakeholder interests and forging consensus. Precision and an analytical eye are important, as you will be tasked with translating complex information into innovative product enhancements.

Your organisational capability will be vital in adeptly managing multiple projects with competing priorities. Experience of teaching, coupled with a thorough understanding of the KS3-KS5 STEM curriculum is an essential requirement to being successful in this role.

To be a successful member of the Product Development team, we are looking for someone who:

  • Possesses an understanding of government regulation (DfE subject content and Ofqual guidance) of GQ qualifications.
  • Has a deep understanding of the STEM curriculum in the English education system and understands the teachers and learners that use our qualifications.
  • Is skilled at analysing and interpreting multiple streams of evidence to generate high-quality, testable conclusions that inform qualification design.
  • Can build consensus through negotiation and communication with a range of stakeholders.
