Job overview

International School Michel Lucius seeks well-qualified practitioners, with a specialisation in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), to join us as soon as possible.

The School

International School Michel Lucius (ISML) is a state-funded primary and secondary school, located in the heart of Luxembourg’s capital. Lycée Michel Lucius (LML) has been providing a high quality education to secondary-school aged students for fifty years. In response to Luxembourg’s fast evolving, highly cosmopolitan and international population, LML created an English language international stream in 2011 which has since grown into a diverse and high quality International School that serves approximately 1400 students, representing more than 70 nationalities. The new International School is an integral part of Lycée Michel Lucius, an inclusive and flourishing learning and teaching community of 2150 students and more than 200 members of teaching staff.

In September 2017, ISML Primary, an accredited Cambridge International school, opened its doors to a highly diverse and rapidly growing pupil population.

The Role

The successful candidate will join our multi-disciplinary team in providing psychoeducational, psychosocial and/or therapeutic support for students with and without identified SEND, with a view to facilitate their academic and social inclusion. Professionals with a specialisation in the field of psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and/or other therapeutic background are encouraged to apply.

Due to a currently increased intake of students with migration backgrounds, the ideal candidate will demonstrate ease in working with students from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. The ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students is essential. Experience of supporting children with social emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs is a plus.

The SEND specialist will be involved in assessing learner needs, and in planning and implementing appropriate interventions. They will work with students in individual or small group settings, informing their practice through a trauma-sensitive approach. With an aim to ensuring overall care for the student, the specialist will work in close partnership with parents/carers, and liaise with external agencies, as relevant.

As part of their role, the SEND specialist will support teaching staff in creating inclusive classrooms where pupils with additional needs can flourish. They will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of SEND procedures in collaboration with the school management and learning support staff, and to collaborate with colleagues across the school.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively, to reflect upon their own practice and to contribute to the ethos and vision of the school.

The successful candidate must have certified evidence of CEFR B2-level competence in one of Luxembourg’s administrative languages (i.e., French, German or Luxembourgish) as well as some working experience in one of the EU member states.

What we offer

As a dynamic and innovative school, we pride ourselves on acting in the interest of our students and supporting our staff in the pursuit of their professional goals. The school actively encourages and supports staff’s continued professional development initiatives.

As government employees, staff benefit from a generous salary, including health, pension, unemployment and disability insurance. Working terms and regulations for professionals within the department are as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and will be shared upon successful interview.
