Job overview

Do you wish to work in a school committed to the development of all staff in its care?

Do you wish to make a difference in a school committed to improving the life chances of all pupils?

Do you have wisdom, integrity, compassion and all round excellence with which to enthuse a new generation as they mature as learners?

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 boys’ Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy with a mixed sixth form. Ours is a lively and vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the challenges and advantages of an inner city school.

The school was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in early 2013 with an outstanding curriculum and governance. We are not complacent and are pro-active in our ambition to become recognised as an “Outstanding” school and outcomes have improved significantly.  A follow-up Section 8 inspection confirmed that the school continues to offer a good standard of education.

"You are ambitious for the pupils at the school. You are proud of their achievements and strive to ensure they do the best they can." OFSTED 2017

“Leaders have designed the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities”. OFSTED 2017

“The progress of students in the school has improved rapidly since it gained academy status and students’ overall achievement is good.” OFSTED 2013

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and capable colleague, ideally a graduate or someone with equivalent experience in a secondary school to carry out the role of Progress Support Officer (PSO). You will carry out a variety of tasks including student facing and administrative tasks.  You will contribute to effecting improvements in behaviour so that our young people are able to make consistently good choices. Having excellent record keeping and time management skills are essential for this role. You will need to employ a professional and assertive attitude whilst having an approachable manner delivered with good humour. Ability to be flexible and manage a variety of tasks whilst meeting deadlines is important.

This is a term time only position, this means that no annual leave should be taken during term time. There is a compulsory lunch duty for which an additional payment is made. You will be required to attend parents evening and other before/after school events.

You will work to support Heads of Year in a key stage. You will be expected to take an holistic view of student behaviour and progress, liaising with school staff and external bodies, to effect positive outcomes. You will also work in collaboration and partnership with the other Progress Support Officers. This role is likely to be with either Key Stage 3 or 4 pupils depending upon experience and availability.

The successful candidate ideally should have recent experience of working with young people.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS.
