Job overview

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus now looking for competent, experienced and, above all, passionate PYP Homeroom Teacher to join the team for the next academic year 2024/2025. 

Cyprus regulations require applicants to have a university degree in education recognised by KYSATS and the ability to pass a background check.   

General responsibilities:

  • Ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment for students through positive framing, kind communication with students and adults, and predictable, consistent routines.
  • Inspire mixed culture and ability classes, by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students.
  • Use a wide array of data to make instructional choices and create specific action plans to increase student achievement, including dynamic student grouping for small group instruction.
  • Design, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to suit the individual needs of all students in line with the PYP.
  • Plan Units of Inquiry and lessons by following IB curriculum framework collaboratively with the PYP Coordinator, Specialist teachers, and Learning Support team.
  • Liaise with the Head of Primary School and PYP Coordinator to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum to specified classes, including selecting resources and managing them efficiently in the classroom.
  • Assess and monitor student progress and provide targets so that all learners can see success and improve.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to share new ideas, approaches, and professional knowledge.
  • Maintain constant awareness of the needs of any children to whom English is another language.
  • Take an active role in the wider community, participating in extracurricular activities, school trips, and extension activities as necessary. 
  • Be responsible for communicating effectively with external stakeholders as parents on the individual progress of students through all means used at ISL. This includes being responsible for: oral and written feedback, report cards, parent meetings upon school’s or parents’ request.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive working environment and relationship with the Teaching Assistant (TA). Making sure the TA is involved, challenged, and valued, and that the TA is given suitable responsibility.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, line managers, and administrators.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Take part in all training provided by the school, both internal and external.
  • Model the qualities of the IB learner profile and attitudes and be an active member of the learning community.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Pedagogical is a must. Additional degrees would be considered an advantage.
  • Professional Educator Diploma or other teacher qualification if available (e.g. QTS, PGCE).
  • Has IB experience in any of the programmes (mandatory).
  • Has fluent English level C1 at least and international mindedness.
  • Familiar with technology use in teaching and learning. 
  • Is compassionate and attentive to students; knows how children learn and can support their learning.
  • Remember how to be curious and awed by the world around.
  • Can create and improvise and has a desire to co-create a child-centred curriculum and bring it to life.
  • Has a mild allergy to sitting at the desk and strictly following the prescribed curriculum.

Position Working Days/hours: 

Monday to Friday, 8:00-16:00
