Our pupils often have significant gaps in their learning having had time out of education in the past therefore most are learning below national expectation.

Seadown is a small, independent, non-maintained, school. We are a school for young people from years 1 to 11, with a variety of educational needs including MLD, dyslexia, autistic spectrum, ADHD and BESD (SEMH). We are currently registered for 30 pupils.

At Seadown children and young people who have previously been isolated or excluded from school are supported to grow and develop socially, to gain some confidence and be encouraged to do their personal best.

The duties will include all aspects of teaching pupils a bespoke curriculum tailored to their individual needs. Responsibilities will include writing IEPs, Individual Risk Assessments and Positive Behaviour Plans. In addition to these responsibilities you may be asked to lead a subject hub dependent on specialism, attend Annual Reviews of pupils EHCP’s and monitor and analyse not only academic achievement but also social and emotional development.

The successful candidate will:

· have experience of working as a Qualified teacher in a challenging environment; or be very confident and have an excellent training record.

· be experienced in working with a range of SEND

· be willing to learn and develop your knowledge and understanding of SEND teaching and commit to a comprehensive training programme

· be competent in delivering the National Curriculum

· be committed to working as a team member

· aspire to engage children with their learning through carefully planned topics.

Teacher responsibilities

· The duties will include all aspects of teaching pupils through key stage 1, 2 or 3, including writing PIES, reports, annual review documentation and bespoke behaviour plans

· You will additionally lead a subject hub (to be negotiated)

· To have oversight of their assigned class at any given moment regardless of whether they are in direct contact with them at the time (i.e. dealing with, and following up on, issues that have occurred with other staff, groups or settings; ‘Forest School’ being an example)

General responsibilities

· Maintain a good order of discipline amongst the pupils when they are in school and engaged in school activities off-site and to be sensitive to the needs, culture, and ethnic background of the children

Curriculum

· Plan, prepare and assess pupils work and lessons within the parameters laid down by our planning policy and schemes of work

· Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of the pupils

· Provide guidance and advice to pupils on educational, social, and moral issues

· Be prepared to take responsibility for an extra-circular activity

Evaluation, Assessment and Record Keeping

· Access, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils as defined in the school policies

· Communicate and consult with pupils, colleagues, parents/carers, and outside agencies as appropriate

· Mark work, providing regular feedback according to the agreed marking and presentation policy

· Set regular, ambitious, yet achievable, targets for the pupils both academically and social emotionally incorporating EHCP outcomes

Other responsibilities

· Participate in scheduled meetings, including a daily team meeting

· Participate in duty rosters, including taking some assemblies

Safeguarding Responsibilities

· To comply with the safeguarding policies, procedures, and code of conduct

· Safeguard the health & safety for all pupils

· To demonstrate a personal commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

· To ensure that any safeguarding concerns or incidents are reported appropriately in line with school policy

· To engage in safeguarding and any other relevant training when required

· Be willing to undertake, and put into practice, the PRICE de-escalation training award including physical handling

· Adhere to any other reasonable requests from the Headteacher and/or Senior Leadership within the School

Salary is dependent on experience (Seadown School has its own salary structure)

Start date is as soon as possible taking into account legal parameters and relevant mandatory checks
