An exciting opportunity has arisen for a reliable, conscientious and talented Chef to support the Head of Catering, Executive Chef and the wider onsite team across our 10 boarding houses and Preparatory School. You will be responsible for producing quality, healthy and appealing fayre for pupils within the House, with ages ranging from 3 to 18 years old.

Main Responsibilities

Role Overview

To support the Head of Catering and Executive Chef, deputising for the House Chef’s and Preparatory Chef Manager, leading the catering team’s in the provision of a first class catering service. Delivering high quality, fresh, nutritious, imaginative on trend, age-appropriate food that meets the needs of the pupils, visitors and staff within the parameters of a set budget.

Role Responsibilities

The role of the Relief House Chef is responsible to the Head of Catering for the provision of a high quality, in house catering service. This is a hands on, proactive role that requires a passion for fresh, nutritious and seasonal cooking. The role will be demanding, but wide ranging and fulfilling for the successful candidate. It is likely that the Chef Manager will have previous experience managing and working within a medium sized team of kitchen staff. You will need to be an innovative chef, conscious of current trends in food and innovations and dietary requirements.

Repton School, founded in 1557, is a leading co-educational School situated in the historic village of Repton. Five miles from Burton upon Trent and eight miles from Derby, Repton lies in the very centre of England. The School boasts a consistently fine academic record and is active and successful in a wide range of other activities. The School’s 600 plus pupils, both boys and girls, are predominantly boarders. Each belongs to one of the ten boarding houses. Repton prides itself on its long and close association with the village.

Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 it is a criminal offence for a person over 18 (e.g. teacher, matron, sports coach) to have a sexual relationship with a child under 18 where that person is in a position of trust in respect of that child, even if the relationship is consensual. This applies where the child is in full-time education and the person works in the same establishment as the child, even if s/he does not teach the child. Moreover, whatever the age of the pupil, a sexual relationship between an employee and a pupil will be considered an abuse of a position of trust and gross misconduct, likely to result in dismissal.

Repton School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for 13- to 18-year-olds. Situated in Repton, Derbyshire, the school hosts around 620 pupils. Former students have included Roald Dahl and Jeremy Clarkson. 

The school was founded in 1557 and has grown considerably since; it now boasts a science priory, which was built in 2013, plus multi-purpose laboratories and a 3D lecture theatre. The music school has been redeveloped and the school theatre has been redesigned to include tier seating. 

Repton was previously a 12th-century priory and the remaining part of the priory is known as Prior Overton’s Tower, which has been incorporated into a 19th-century building in honour of the school's historical beginnings. For pupils who stay on campus, there are 10 houses – six for boys and four for girls.

The school specialises in core subjects such as maths and science, but also encourages students to do a variety of extracurricular activities, from the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and community service programmes to ceramics and photography. With modern facilities and excellent teachers on hand to help, students consistently exceed the national average in results.
