Job overview

The Hawthorns School is a thriving prep day school for children between the ages of 2 and 13. Located on an idyllic 35-acre estate in Bletchingley, Surrey, our mission is to prepare each child for life and to inspire a love of learning.

We are seeking to appoint an individual to the new post of Resident Caretaker to join our friendly Estates team to support all aspects of the daily operation of the School site. The day-to-day operations of the site are fundamental to the success of The Hawthorns, providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment for our pupils, staff and visitors. The postholder will make a significant contribution to ensuring that all buildings and grounds are in a safe and well-maintained condition.

The successful candidate will have experience of maintenance, including buildings, grounds and facilities, in a customer-focused environment, as well as working knowledge of Health & Safety. Candidates will need to be flexible and adaptable, and able to carry out planned works, as well as respond to out-of-hours issues. Candidates must inspire high standards, show initiative and have an ability to work as part of a team.

This role is full-time, all year around, living on site within the School grounds. We offer a warm, friendly and inclusive working environment. Our benefits package includes a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement, rent-free accommodation, and lunch provided during term time. Candidates are warmly invited to visit the School before applying and should contact our Estates Manager, Andrew McManus, to arrange this EstatesMGR@hawthorns.com or 01883 743048 Ext. 2066.

To apply for this role, please submit a fully completed Application Form (available on our website), to our HR Manager, Emma Mitchell hr@hawthorns.com by no later than the closing date of Wednesday 26 April 2023 at 9.00am.

Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received, and the School reserves the right to make an appointment prior to the closing date should the ideal candidate(s) be identified.

All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a 'Suitability to work with children: self-declaration form'. This form must be returned to HR prior to the interview taking place.
