Job overview

Marjory Kinnon School is one of the country’s largest SEND schools. Since having moved into a new purpose-built school building in 2018, the school has doubled in size. A well performing school, MKS provides education to c.315 pupils between the age of 4 and 16, many of whom have ASC as their primary diagnosed need.

This is a pivotal role within the school’s business support team that has come available at a fascinating time for our school. We have a strong management and leadership team in place at the moment (please see our team organigram below) but due to the challenges that exist in the education sector, particularly within SEND education, there is opportunity and challenge facing our school.

To be able to continue to effectively support our pupils’ needs, the school is seeking to recruit an experienced and professional business manager who is enthused by challenge and intrigued by complexity. Someone who enjoys overcoming business problems, assessing and managing risk and refining delivery plans to create the appropriate operational response to the situation in hand.

Someone who thrives on supporting others and leading their team and organisation. Someone with the desire to develop themselves and their team professionally and who will strive every day to improve the quality of what we do so that we can provide the best possible service to our pupils, their parents/carers as well as colleagues and our wider stakeholders.

The role itself offers a varied and exciting mix of work areas incorporating, as it does, leadership and management of numerous different operational areas including administration, ICT services, facilities and risk, as well as management of our outsourced cleaning and catering services. It also offers the successful candidate the opportunity to lead a successful business support team and play a leading role in the strategic development and operational delivery of a c.£10m organisation driven by a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of the pupils we support.

Working in a school with over 300 children with additional needs will offer our successful candidate a very rare opportunity to work within a setting, where they will see the impact of their work on a daily basis. The profound, life changing and transformative positive impact their work has will provide a type of intrinsic job satisfaction that is rare to find.

If you want to work in an authentic, child-centred, stable professional working environment that promotes high standards for our pupils and places a very high importance on staff wellbeing, then we may be a good fit for you.
