Start Date: July/September 2024

We welcome applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and no faith, and who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

Are you a hands on, practical person with a can-do attitude? Could you be our next school caretaker?

Do you enjoy or would like to get into working on buildings, grounds or property maintenance?

You must be able to work on your own initiative, be practical and hardworking and hold a full driving licence (or be working towards one). Whatever your level of experience if you have the right approach and skills we would love to hear from you.

Due to the nature of the existing team we are able to consider applicants for the role on either a full time, part time or job share basis (either hours e.g. morning/afternoon or days per week). The role is all year round including school holidays and on a full time basis would be for 37 hours per week. Core hours would be between 7.00/7.30 and 6.00 (precise pattern to be discussed and mutually agreed).

There may also be the opportunity for additional paid hours outside of this, for example relating to parents evenings, lettings etc.

You would work as part of the school estates team dealing with pupils, parents/carers, staff, governors, contractors and visitors, and as part of that team you would be responsible for the maintenance and security of the school premises and site.  Including for example:

·        Making sure buildings, site and resources meet standards of cleanliness and Health & Safety are met,

·        Operating and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms),

·        Undertaking minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings and site, and other such tasks as relate to the efficient, safe and secure nature of the site.

If you think this role might be for you, why not give us a call and arrange to come in for an informal chat and see for yourself! Site visits are warmly encouraged. Please email Enzo Russo e.russo@stmarys.net Estates Manager or recruitment@stmarys.net to make an enquiry, submit an application or arrange a visit.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Welcome

St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.

Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.

The aims of the school are:

• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
