JOB OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strong candidate to work across the academy as a Caretaker.

The ideal candidate will be able to support the site team and maintain the security of the premises and its contents (including the operation of fire and burglar alarms and key-holder responsibilities), lighting and heating, providing porterage, defined handyperson duties, and other duties arising from the use of premise sharing their enthusiasm and commitment with both the department and to the students. An ability to work collaboratively is essential as we are a strong team.

Contract: 37.5 hours per week. 52 weeks

Salary Range: Band 2

General responsibilities (not exhaustive):

  • Ensuring the buildings are prepared for both routine and non-routine use in conjunction with the rest of the team.
  • Making sure buildings are maintained and that appropriate signage is displayed, this includes toilet areas and throughout the school.
  • Ensuring the efficient operation of the school’s services, carrying out reactive and planned maintenance repairs as directed by the Site manager.
  • The opening and closing of the premises. Ensuring that the buildings are secure when not in use.
  • Routine and occasional reactive cleaning duties as required..
  • Taking delivery of stores and materials and their internal distribution and deliver to the appropriate persons to ensure nothing is misplaced or lost.
  • Facilitating the work of contractors needing access to the premises.
  • To adhere to full visitor procedures and inline with health and safety, to ensure all visitors are either supervised or able to work unsupervised due to having a full up to date enhanced DBS and detailed guidance on managing safeguarding when working in a school
  • To be constantly aware of the site appearance and health and safety issues. To be constantly assessing and to liaise accordingly or take appropriate action(s) in helping to find acceptable solutions to include reactive cleaning and repairs when necessary.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be required by the Princiapl or Site Manager from time to time.
  • Being generally vigilant for the care and safety of all students, staff and visitors and report immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead any concerns.
  • Cover for other roles within the site maintenance team such as for holidays or sickness, including the need to be flexible with working hours and patterns, to ensure the caretaking rota is covered by the site maintenance team as a whole, in conjunction with the Site Manager.

Huish Episcopi Academy is a large, non-selective, mixed secondary school for pupils aged 11-18 based in the heat of the Somerset Levels with a large catchment area. We are proud to be part of United Learning.  At Huish, we offer the full national curriculum to all students with opportunities for our pupils to engage in a broad range of additional activities in sports, music, and the creative arts.
