School Chef

Argyle House School is a non-selective, co-educational independent school located in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. Opened in 1884, it provides an education for pupils aged 2-16. A small school with fewer than 200 pupils, Argyle House became co-educational in 1994, having originally been a boys' school.

Since its founding, Argyle House School has moved premises on multiple occasions and currently resides in Thornhill Park. Extensive modernisation and redevelopment has taken place over the years, in order to provide the facilities necessary to support a broad curriculum.

Values and vision

Argyle House School has consistently sought to provide the breadth and facilities of a large school, while maintaining smaller class sizes. Teachers maintain a pupil-centred approach to education, with a strong belief that the curriculum and teaching must be fun and engaging, in order to encourage children to work hard and be independent and creative.

The relationship between pupils and teachers is considered crucially important to children's education, in order to help them explore and grow as learners.
