About the role:

Swiss International School in Qatar is seeking an outstanding and forward-thinking School Counsellor for Academic Year starting 01 December 2023. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of a team of educators that is further developing at SISQ.

  • Prior experience supporting the whole school PK-Gr12
  • To provide a high-quality counseling service to students experiencing a wide range of social, emotional and academic problems.
  • To provide support, guidance and advice to parents, carers and the school. 
  • To observe confidentiality and to support the school’s endeavor to provide excellent teaching and learning for all students.
  • Be willing to go into classrooms and do SEL with all age groups
  • Experience with conducting Nurture groups is an advantage
  • Pastoral experience is an advantage
  • Experience with safeguarding and being able to contribute to the safeguarding, welfare and personal care of children and young people


General Responsibilities:

As the School Counsellor you will be required to:


  • Support students of all grades PK-Gr 12
  • A collaborative working style
  • A commitment to continuous improvement
  • A commitment to student learning, wellbeing and safeguarding

Professional development:

  • Take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments which may lead to improvements in the counseling service provided. 
  • To arrange and deliver relevant training for staff as and when needs are identified.
  • Conduct psychoeducational programs for parents .


Pastoral Care:

  • Be responsible for the supervision of the students (drop off, after-school childcare, EA’s and all break times)
  • Celebrate students' achievements 
  • Promote the IB Attitudes and Profile
  • Respond to students’ physical, mental and emotional needs in school
  • Communicate to parents through e-mail, ManageBac and weekly newsletters where applicable

Whole School:

  • Actively participate in all school meetings, school events and PD days
  • Promote and encourage parent involvement in the school through events and parent conferences
  • Contribute and encourage a positive atmosphere in school.

About you:

The successful candidate will have the following essential qualities:

  • Prior experience as a School Counsellor supporting all student grades 
  • A collaborative working style
  • A commitment to continuous improvement
  • A commitment to student learning, wellbeing and safeguarding.

The following qualities would be an advantage:

  • Masters, or Doctorate Degree in Psychology
  • Experience within an international school setting


In line with the Ministry of Education's Circular 13 requirements for this position, the candidate must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology
  • No more than 49 years of age (at the point of joining the school)
