Job overview

Become a School Governor with Humberston Academy, Humberston

At Humberston Academy we continue to demonstrate an outstanding approach to education with exceptionally high standards and traditional ethos. However, it is not all about academic achievement; we are also passionate about enrichment in order to develop skills outside of the classroom. Our recent Eco Schools Status accreditation is an example of this. We are a growing, oversubscribed, hard-working academy, with a positive, business-like and purposeful atmosphere where students can develop and broaden their horizons

The David Ross Education Trust is a not-for-profit Multi-Academy Trust that runs a growing network of primary and secondary schools in Scarborough, Bridlington, Hull, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northampton, Daventry, and London.  DRET academies serve over 14,000 students, and their families.

We are looking for new governors to support Humberston Academy. Our governors work closely with their academies to support the Trust’s goal of broadening the horizons of young people through a world-class education, equipping our students with the skills and experiences to become their confident, academic best, no matter what.

Becoming a governor is an excellent form of volunteering and can be a really rewarding and stimulating experience. Imagine having a very real part to play in ensuring the children at your academy get the best possible education. Think of the satisfaction of raising standards and achieving improvements for the school.

There's plenty of opportunity to learn new skills, working with others to help benefit the education of children. The role may sound formal, but governors play a vital role in the running of the school and most people enjoy their time as a governor, as well as appreciating the sense of duty and opportunity to show loyalty to their school. You may also progress to being a chair, which brings added responsibility. The experiences of school governorship look great on any CV, and can even create career opportunities

It is important to have governors reflective (but not necessarily representatives) of the community a school serves. Diversity can help with better scrutiny and decision making in the interests of pupils. We welcome governors from a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and experience to join our team.

If you have an interest in, and commitment to, improving education and would like to make a difference within your community, please register your interest in becoming a governor by completing the application form.

If you have any questions about a governor’s role or responsibilities please contact us at governorservices@dret.co.uk

At Humberston Academy we are proud to be a leading education provider in our local community. We seek to broaden the horizons of each and every one of our students, helping them to achieve at the highest level both academically and within their talents outside the classroom, upholding our vision of Excellence for All.

We understand that every student needs a strong academic foundation in order to achieve their full potential. At our Academy we combine an innovative curriculum with a strong house structure, which ensures that students receive all the support and guidance they need to succeed.

At Humberston the values of respect and good behaviour are instilled from the outset and high attendance is a priority. Ensuring that students leave the Academy as young people that the whole community can be proud of, is a crucial part of our educational offer.

Over the last few years Humberston Academy has continued to strengthen and develop but we do not rest on our previous successes.  We are proud of the significant investment that has been made in our buildings and environment and the impact that this is having on our students.

The Academy, a member of the David Ross Education Trust, became the first in North East Lincolnshire to be designated “outstanding” under Ofsted’s stricter guidelines.

Our focus is on first class teaching and recruiting outstanding practitioners.  Quality teachers are the people who inspire our students to great things.

Another year of excellent results 2018.

A total of 84% of students at Humberston Academy achieved 4 to 9 in GCSE Maths this summer. In English, the figure was 88%. 82% of students achieved above grade 4 in the combine Maths and English measure. These results once again confirms our place among the top-performing schools in the area.

We are an outstanding Academy and proud of our exceptionally high standards. But it is not all about academic achievement.  We are a growing oversubscribed, hard-working Academy, with a positive, business-like and purposeful atmosphere where students can develop and broaden their horizons.

Humberston also offers:

  • Outstanding behaviour
  • An ethos of mutual respect and love of learning
  • Outstanding teaching and learning
  • A small, caring environment
  • Every student is treated as individual
  • Broadening horizons by being part of the David Ross Education Trust, which provides the students with exceptional sporting and cultural opportunities.
