Job overview
Term time only plus INSET Days
Hours: 19 hours of day shifts with two night duties 19:30-07:30 which are on call, or in the Medical Centre if there are patients present overnight.
Godstowe School requires a dedicated, competent School Nurse to join the School’s Medical Centre.
Godstowe is a thriving, busy school enjoying a famous reputation in its field. On our 12 acre site in High Wycombe, we educate about 400 girls, aged 3 to 13, with a few boys in our Pre-Prep. Approximately 80 girls are boarders at the School.
The successful candidate will join a professional team of three Registered Nurses who report to the Deputy Head (Pastoral) on a day-to-day basis. The Medical Centre is staffed on a rota basis 24 hours per day, weekdays and weekends during term-time (except for Exeat weekends). The post holder will work on a shift pattern to be agreed to include some night shifts.
Apart from providing nursing care where needed as part of the team effort, the School Nurses ensure the Medical Centre’s compliance with regulatory and inspection requirements, develop and update policies and contribute to the School’s effort to best practice in pastoral care for all pupils. In addition, the Medical Centre is a point of contact for staff members and the Nurses administer first aid to anybody on site, if required.
We require a professional caring team member who is Registered Nurse qualified (with qualification up to date) who has gained experience in looking after children and managing a diverse and demanding work load.
Benefits include meals on duty in term time. Accommodation may be available.
For more details about the position please visit the Godstowe website: www.godstowe.org/vacancies .
Closing date: 30 May 2024 although we may interview and appoint prior to this date.
Godstowe is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About Godstowe School
Something Special is happening at Godstowe
Godstowe was founded by two strong, progressive women, originally in fact as a school whose purpose would be to prepare girls for the move down the hill to Wycombe Abbey School. Their vision was for an innovative, academic and broad education for girls and, without a doubt, this continues to live on in today’s school.
Our ethos is simple. All we want is for our girls and boys to be Confident, Happy and Successful. Indeed, if the first two are true, the third will almost certainly follow. Success is defined in many ways, and we mean successful in the broadest sense: successfully kind, successfully courteous as well as successful in achieving a wide range of goals. We keep our pupils busy and engaged, we entertain and intrigue them, encourage them, and excite them. Happy children are easy to teach.
With outstanding, highly qualified teaching staff as well as a strong and experienced pastoral team, excellent facilities, wonderful surroundings, a non-selective intake policy and a more positive, exuberant and industrious atmosphere than you will find in other schools, it is likely that most of our children will be happy to learn, happy to stretch themselves, happy to support each other, and happy to do whatever they can to take an active part in their own education. Why push children through the curriculum when they can be inspired to make their own journey, choose their own routes and arrive at their destination under their own steam?
Our pupils love their time at school. It never ceases to amaze me just how much highly motivated and enthusiastic people can willingly contribute, and we don’t just mean the girls and boys, we mean the staff and the parents too! Godstowe is alive with opportunity. Remember, to learn a lesson you need to live it.
