You will possess good communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within the department as well as on your own initiative, working well under pressure and to tight deadlines, prioritising tasks as necessary. Training in some areas may be available for the right candidate.
We have five well-equipped laboratories, and practical work is a key aspect of science teaching. The successful candidate will prepare for and lay out the laboratories with the equipment and materials requisitioned for practical exercises, taking responsibility for stocktaking and ordering as required; carry out risk assessments for practical and technical activities, run trials of experiments and help to run demonstrations. You will advise with regard to the safety, repair and general maintenance of all resources, tools, equipment and our laboratories in compliance with COSHH, CLEAPSS and other relevant legislation and school documentation.
A working knowledge of, or interest in, science is essential. You will work closely with teachers to provide a dynamic, engaging curriculum.
The Science Department offers AQA GCSE Science Trilogy and AQA GCSE Triple Science. Results are regularly in the top 5 schools nationally for value added (CEM Centre data) and a large percentage of pupils go on to study at least one science A Level.
